It turns out the nut on the faucet cracked and broke in half. I turned off the main water valve to repair for now.

Ugh! Brand new AC compressor blew the rear seal after only 20 minutes of being installed! Cost me the $150 recharge - now I'm paranoid AND broke!

I suspect there is something else wrong or the rebuild was bad. Don't overcharge the system and make sure you're proportioning valve is good to go. Also, was this system properly evacuated and was the desiccant bottle replaced? What's the status of the pag oil in the system?

A shop charged the system and said it was probably defective. As for the oil, I know it had about 4oz or 150ml when I installed the compressor - I've called 4 dealerships asking about the amount of oil and they all tell me something different. Nothing was replaced other than the compressor.

I heard the way it's set up, it's always spinning.
Maybe you will track down a shorter bypass belt to install, so you can drive without it in the meantime?

Well if it's charged, hopefully has the right kind of and amount of PAG oil, and is new, then that'd suck for it to have issues.

See this guy might now. I don't even know what a proportioning valve. I know there is a conical mesh filter thing, by the cabin air filter.
I've heard mixed opinions on whether to replace the desiccant bottle (it's called evaporator I think) but maybe it's cheap and could use it after so many miles?

    Paint is f'ed

    ??? how?
I thought cars were designed to withstand water. And they drive in the rain.

could temperature change cause it, if it was in direct sunlight and the paint felt hot?

Yeah - not sure about the proportioning valve either, but the mesh tube is the orifice tube - it collects all the metal debris from the compressor. None of that was changed. I do have a belt that is on which bypasses the compressor, but it's getting really warm here...hahaha - gotta fix it soon.
