Bird chirping/ cricket noise from engine bay, at wits end. (Video content inside)

Hey guys, Ive got an issue with my car sounding like there is a bird stuck in the engine bay, the noise seems to be absent when the car is cold, but once it warms up the sound comes up. Happens weather moving or still, and Is not speed related or related to anything to do with the cooling fans or climate contol fan bearings that I can tell. Recently I have installed a BT setup and a few issues are starting to arise from the new power, this being one of them. Heres the run down:

Gt2871r elim
Custom tuned on 550cc's
Unitronic downpipe
Borla exhaust
Silicone intakes FMIC
Stock exhaust mani
Still on stock clutch untill next week (slipping like a mofo)
154k miles
Shot motor mounts
TT DV


That al i can think of that would possibly relate to this noise.

Good thinking, i did my timing service at 86k so im due for #2, just thought tensioners would be very audible from front of engine, but I cant pinpoint where the fu82!:@ the sound is even coming from

The bird is getting uncomfortable when the engine bay gets too hot. Peehaps, you could cut some vents into your hood to keep the bay temp down and keep the bird comfortable, maybe if you get lucky it'll just fly out of one of your vents.

So in order to check either Ill be having to drop the lock carrier into service mode correct?

You should be able to slip the serp belt off to feel around for a gritty pulley without taking the whole front end of the car apart. You may also want to start it with the belt completely removed to see if the noise goes away.

OMG I have the same noise and it drives me batty. When you depress your clutch does the noise go away? Mine does. In fact, all I have to do is just put a little weight on the clutch pedal and the noise goes away.

I thought it may be by throwout bearing, or the pilot bearing, or possibly something loose from when I did my 5MT swap.

It doesn't seem to be causing any issues, so for now I have let it be.

Yup. When i depress it just a tad the noise stops. Now that you say that im remembering. I think it might be my stock clutch hating its life. Need to get my new one installed, but my friends garage who is doing it is booked through the week. If when its installs the noise goes away Ill PM you.

Oh yeah and for good measures a 71r can get you the holeshot just redline it and drop your stock clutch.

I have the same chirping noise and mine seems to be either the tensioner or idle pulley, not to mention probably needing a new belt soon too.

Anyone know if all these can be installed easily?

Sounds like a pulley or bearing. Alternator , valves , I recently Had a spark plug blow out of cylinder and it was making a high pitch chirp before it happened.

The tensioner is cake, but the idler requires you to be in service position (why mine is still sitting in the closet).

I have a sound like that only when the car is moving and it sounds like its coming from the left front wheel area of my car. The second I apply any pressure to brakes it stops and if going downhill it stops...


Any ideas?

After a quick peak in my engine bay i noticed one of the purge valves in the vac system had come undone, the one that is inline with the check valve above the air box. Im gonna go for a drive and see if the noise pops up since its intermittent for the first 10 mins of driving. Fingers crossed.

the noise SEEMS to have gone away, but i wont know for sure untill my work commute tomorrow. If it is till present I hope it is the TOB, because ive got a new one right next to me.

In all seriousness this turbo setup may or may not be in my car for a whole lot longer, i dont know. Once i get my clutch in and really beat it if Im satisfied then Ill keep it a little while longer, if not I will start puting money aside for a BAT build.
