I've done it countless times now. Made installing the HID fogs I currently have much easier.
Alternatively, you can also do it easily from below, during an oil change. That's what I did for my HID fogs, super simple.

How do I unclip the harness from the bulb? Can't get it to move.

This picture shows it the best:

There is a little slip on the top, push that down and pull.

If you're still having issues just go through the front.

    Hey guys,

First, thanks for all the useful advice and experience in this thread-very helpful! I recently purchased the DeAutoKey H8 LED conversion kit and was going to go in through the wheel well, removing 4 T25 screws (after jacking up the car and removing the wheel). It was cold out and I wasn't really in the mood. I couldn't see a clean way to mount the ballast or resistor. Remembering this thread, I decided to fiddle with the grill (mistakenly trying to turn the recessed screw on the outer side of the fog light grill). Nada-got nowhere (after re-reading the thread, I now know how to do that).

My question: anyone mounted a ballast and resistor for a LED conversion? it looks like the small ledge below the fog light might serve as a nice place to put the adhesive and mount the ballast to? The resistor supposedly gets very hot-which has me worried about mounting it correctly. Where should I mount it? I can get some limited access to the back side by removing the 4 T25 screws from the wheel well, but that's really a pain, and provides limited access due to the odd clips (higher in the wheel well) that don't allow easy removal of the whole wheel well liner.

I almost bailed on the install and returned the lights, but now I'm really wanting to try it again and make it work. I live out in the country and the extra lighting to spot deer would be very nice for me!

Any help you guys can provide is greatly appreciated. Anyone else install these liights? My car is a 2014 A4, Premium plus. The light kit is this one: http://deautokey.com/product/mk6-jet...-fog-light-kit The install instructions shown are for a Passat-and it's a good bit different than our cars, so the install photos are of limited use to me.

    Thanks,

    Sean

    You mean HIDs?

I've ran halogen, LED and HID bulbs in mine. Currently have HIDs in, they get a little warm but not too bad.

Thanks for the reply. I'm glad to see someone else has done a similar install. No, I did actually mean LED (not a typo). See the link to the product in my post above. There is a ballast and resistor that needs to be mounted (ballast with just double-sided tape, resistor needs to be screwed down to metal due to heat-or it can be hung so it doesn't make contact with plastic parts).

Question: how hard is it to drop the whole front trim piece like you show in your photo? Is that the best way to so the install?

    Thanks!

Removing the bumper is easy, I didn't remove it to install these, just happened to have it off so I took a picture.

Realistically, I think your best bet is to remove the belly pan. (It's like 3 screws in the front, 3 on each side and 3 on the back. The 3 on the back are self-retaining and only need to be spun 1/4 turn)

Is the belly pan the whole piece in your photo? Or is that the black center portion in your picture? I was planning to pull off the fog light grills and mount the ballast on the front side-the horizontal surface below the fog light. But ai wasn't sure if there was enough room nor how to get the wires to the back side for the resistor (which would be mounted behind the front clip).

Belly pan isn't shown in my picture.

First 1:30 of this video shows how to remove it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=82QQoD0PElE

Can easily be done on the ground assuming you are not lowered.

that's how i initially planned on going but for some reason, i couldnt get the H8 bulbs to line up with the holes in the housing to insert and twist into place. I had to file away until i could get it in. Also it was easier to unplug the wiring from the from in my opinion.

Thanks for the help guys-I got my DeAutoKey LED fogs installed tonight and they are simply AMAZING! Super bright and they match the color of the DRL's and HID headlights perfectly. Super happy! I did the whole install from the front by removing the fog light grills. Thanks for this thread and the tips.

Thanks, that is great info, as someone was asking, all feedback says it does match but we never say 100% but we feel it is very close.
