    05 S4 Avant Brakes

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey there,

I am in the midst of picking up a 05 S4 Avant in Seattle and the PPI came back saying the car needed all new front and rear brakes ($1300). With that said, is it best to go stock brakes or use that money towards better brakes?

    Thoughts?

$1300 for all new brakes is pretty ridiculous. If buying all parts from the dealer and paying for the install I could maybe see it, but even then it would be quite high.

The stock setup is fine and the front and rears can be replaced for $3-400. Blank disks for the front are $50-70, with the rears being even cheaper. Pads will also be in the $50-125 range depending on what you pick. Many people (myself included) love the Akebono Ceramic pads due to their very low dust. RockAuto.com has the cheapest deals on brakes, somebody said all 4 corners were like $250-300

You mean new calipers or just rotors and pads? That is a fuck ton of money for rotors and pads but I could see a dealer charging that much. For reference I did all 4 corners on my 06 S4 (same brakes) for $300 total using cheap rotors from rockauto.com and Akebono Euro ceramic pads on sale from Advance and ATE Type 200 fluid.

    Thanks for the heads up.
Yeah, I thought that sounded pretty ridiculous.

I third the akebono ceramics. have them on my fronts and not on rears. It's odd seeing dusty rear wheels and shiny fronts.

same here. Although the Akebonos do have a bit less initial bite at first, they perform pretty much exactly as stock and have nearly invisible dusting

What would be the next step up from Akebonos?

If you're talking about street driving there really isn't one IMO. They offer pretty good modulation, low noise and dust, and you won't overheat them unless you're at a track day (they last 10-15 minutes on the track before beginning to fade).
