    B7 S4 Avant, Stage 2 Build

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Coming clean with my S4 build, which seriously started when I shipped the car to JHM in November to do a full engine build and Stage 2 SC.

Do not ask me about cost! As JHM has always said, if you’re serious about something, call them and discuss it. Last I talked to them, the details of what Stage 2 includes was not completely finalized.

I picked up the car at the end of 2011, it’s a 2006 Audi S4 Avant MT, brought in from Toronto with 100k km on the clock and bone stock. Full service history and in pretty decent shape. Added some KWv3’s and some JHM goodies right off the bat and started enjoying it. This fall I started burning a lot of oil, turns out my valve seals needed to be replaced. Decided if I was going to rip the engine apart I might as well have some fun with the process. After some emails and a few phone calls with the great staff at JHM I couriered a bank draft to them and arranged to ship my car there.

Unfortunately the car was caught in a hailstorm this fall and insurance couldn’t fit me in for repair before it left. That plus a little surface rust near the rear taillights means it’s not the prettiest car at the moment, but once it comes back it’s getting PDR and a respray (original colour, which is listed as “special build” and is a blue/green combo). Also planning to get an Aerofunction’s Carbon vented hood while it’s down there, which will get colour matched as well.

Timing wise, I just told JHM that I'd like the car back in the spring sometime and I picked up a B200T to use as a daily driver.

I'm assuming that your car will be the first with the stage 2 SC setup?

    ETA on being finished?

    Any hp/tq projections?

My wild guess (and it really is a wild guess) would be about 520-530whp and about 400-410wtq
But again, I'm only guessing. I could be way off.

I believe there have been a couple others, it's all pretty hush hush.. but from what I was told, it was lingering near 550+ HP.. A built V8 with 10+ PSI should do that no problem. Especially if the platform is 340CHP

It's been very reliable. That incident was unfortunate but it's been permanently fixed so that it never happens again.

Well, seeing as I'm at 421whp at a hair under 6psi which equates to about 525chp using a general 20% loss (give or take a couple %), I'm thinking 550chp is way too low of a number.

Agreed, certainly a very modest number. 550whp should be cake for this V8 built.

I'm not going to speculate as the details aren't worked out, but given that Axel is 421 whp and how large the SC is, I'd say there's a decent amount of room to move up :)

It is one of the factory individual custom colours. I had an incident where a shop needed to replace a front fender and it took the paint shop 4 days to get the colour code from Audi. No name was given. It really changes color based on the type of light. Looks really blue in the winter around snow or when it's cloudy, more green on sunny days.

Interior is black seats with the silver alcantara and aluminum trim. The Alcantara on the drivers seat has a lot of wear and holes, something else on the list that needs to be replaced when it gets back.

As others have said, I LOVE the color. I always thought it was just Deep Sea Blue Pearl or something similar. I don't remember you mentioning it in your thread over in the Avant section.

So no updates or anything until spring is closer?

No meaningful updates for a while, I just check in with JHM once a month or so to see how things are going. I don't want to be driving a 500+ HP car back to Canada in the winter on All Seasons, so I'm in no rush. I figure the family and I will take a nice vacation down to California when the weather is good and then drive the car back.

I've had a surprising number of people PM me about it, either they heard about it or saw my car in the shop and recognized it from my Avant thread, so I figured what the heck, why not make a thread.

hopefully JHM will share pics and details of the build once it's done. i wonder what it takes to break 500awhp and what kind of power it will be making with stage 2.

my buddy have stage 3 b5 s4 pushing probably 500awhp and my goal is to smoke him.

They have been running trials on their motors. When I went up to JHM after Christmas they said they blew the motor blew in 4 days. It's going to be awhile before they get a reliable stage 2 SC running. They also said they are not changing any internals but they do have to pull the motor. They are expecting over 500whp. And when they start their stage 3 they expect over 800whp

If you want to beat him, stage 2 should suffice. If you want to smoke him, you may need to go to stage 3.

Somehow I have difficulty believing they're not changing any internals with stage 2 seeing as stage 1 is pretty much at the limit of what the stock motor can handle (we're talking S4 here, not RS4).
As for 800whp for stage 3, that's an exaggeration I think as well since the V3 supercharger maxes out at around 750-800 chp.

But what do I know, I'm not actually at their location so maybe I'm wrong.

Your buddy is pushing 500whp on k04s? Do you know this for a fact? A typical stg3 (about 400whp) should be a good run with Axel's setup...

New timing components are in the build too, just makes sense with the engine being out and stripped down.

As for headers, I'm just reaching the point of diminishing returns. I'm going to have more than enough power with just my existing DP's and I can think of more fun ways to spend $3k. Plus I love the sound of my current exhaust setup :)

i don't know the exact hp number but it's built by Addicted Motor design in Washington state (well know b5 tuner in NW) and previously owned by Audi tech and currently pushing 30psi with 75% meth injection. his engine is pretty much a brand new (well about may be 20k on the motor now) with many RS4 parts. i drove his car before and that thing is a monster. there are only about 2 may be 3 cars in Washington state that's faster than that car.

    Ya I bet...

Stage 3 B5 S4 could mean about a million things...don't compare the supercharged B6/B7 S4 to stage "whatever" B5s because it's honestly a waste of time.

Finally! Great to see some info posted about your build. Very excited to see the outcome.

I'm sure this has been covered in other threads but what exactly separates stage 2 from stage 3? An intercooler and more forged internals...? Will meth come into play at any point? I know a few FI RS4 guys have used meth with no benefit, but this is certainly a different animal, despite it being a similar motor.. to some extent.

More questions popping into my brain... I recall one of the biggest issues with a motor build on our cars is the minimal amount of space between each cylinder making it nearly impossible to re-sleave the cylinders... how are they going about dealing with this task since they'll obviously be replacing pistons?

Oh and sweet color! Very unique. ;)

Subscribed. Like everyone else, I'm loving the color. Looking forward to watching this build as it progresses.
