Check cam timing with lock tool on Audi A6 4.2

Is it possible to doublecheck the cam timing with the lock tool on the A6 4.2 without pulling the whole front end, like Bob does in this video with the A8?

If so, how much has to be removed to be able to get to that point? VCDS is telling me my timing is off, and I want to doublecheck it with the lock tool.

Did you eliminate any rollers or ANYTHING from the front of the motor to install the s8 heads?

Yes, the S8 heads had a roller on each head. It also has an undersized crank pulley for the accessories, IIRC, because of the higher redline. The A6 4.2 only has one roller per head, so we only used one roller and the A6 4.2 timing belt and rollers/tensioners were used. So, everything should have lined up, I think.

Michael when i did the timing belt on my 4.2 i just slided the front carriage out as far as possible to have some room just like "Bob" did, you can defiantly just take the plastic covers off the belt housing and put the bar on to check. Its a bit off work but in 2 hrs or so should be doable.

Good to know. Any advantage to the dual roller setup?

I figured your drops in VE would be the result of faulty intake manifold changeover configuration or parts, or the same for cam chain tensioner adjusters, especially given the RPM at which the power goes to shit.
