I will be honest, with this method if you screw up it will be very hard to continue using your car because you will cutting right at the metal sleeve. With the heat and twist method even if you mess up you could still pull the shift pin up by hand and shift gears. I did this for 2 weeks while I sorted out the new slotted part. I suggest buying some 1/4" nylon rod, it will cost less than $1, and practicing cutting, drilling, and tapping on that until you are comfortable.
