    Humming/drone noise

Can anyone help me with the following problem, at around 40mph I can hear an intermittent droning sound that pulses every half a second or so and will become quicker as I increase in speed.
The sound appears to be coming from the near side front wheel.
I have been assured it is not a wheel bearing at the garage i bought it, but what else could it be?
The car is an Audi A3 1.6s
Is this a common problem, easily solved?
Other than this I am happy with my new purchase!
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. :)

Check the tire for odd wear patterns.

    I second this.

Is your car lowered? Check your tires and it would probably be a good idea to have an alignment done.

The car isn't lowered. I've just checked the Mot certificate for the first time (only bought car y'day) and it has one advisory, nearside rear tyre worn, and this one has been swapped to front, basically (fingers crossed) this is my problem!

My next guys would be alignment. Keep an eye on those new tires and see if one or both of them is wearing strangely.

I think ill check to see if my Rac warranty may cover this, but meanwhile yes I will for tyre wear.

Just a conclusion to this story, I finally got round to taking my A3 to the garage, it turned out to be a wheel bearing after all, a bit annoying as when I first bought the car I was assured that it wasn't a bearing!!! Hey ho, hope to reclaim through warranty for my costs!
