    ESP on my s4 b8

Hey guys, is there any special coding in order to be able to turn off the ESP. When I press my traction control button it only disables my ASR but not my ESP. And when I press and hold it it doesn't do anything. How do you guys do it? I have 2011 s4 b8 prestige package with sport diff and its DSG.

I did but it doesn't work. One push is only ASR right and when you push and hold it, it only says on mine restricted stability and the ESP light doesn't show up on my RPM gauge

Is there any coding that I could do with vag-com to get it working?

No that is correct. Push and it tells you ASR is disabled, hold for a few more seconds and it will then say "Warning, restricted stability". That is the only notification.

Push and hold it. Don't push it, then push again and hold it. It's a single step.

When you push and hold the button until it says restricted stability ESP is fully off. You can't do donuts because your car is stock. also since you have an automatic the transmission probably cuts power too. I do donuts in the complete dry with my car.

I've done donuts and I am stock for all intent and purposes. ;)

Just crank the wheel full tilt in either direction and mash throttle.

Back to OP though, if you can't understand how to hold the button for 5 seconds in one single notion(don't release it and press it again), you probably shouldn't be doing donuts. :) I believe it even explains how to disable ESP in the owners manual.

You are seriously holding it for 5 straight seconds?? On the FIRST push. Do not push it twice.

it first said "ASR OFF - WARNING! RESTRICTED STABILITY" then i assume he kept holding it and it said "WARNING! RESTRICTED STABILITY" by itself after. i assume it's completely off.

also, i'm not sure if it's slightly different due to him having a different center DIS screen? is that what you get without nav?

yes that is exactly what it did and AND if you continue to hold as you can see traction reenables via german language.

so yea it is still on as soon as the ass starts to step esp intervenes

naw bro, actually if you hold it and it goes through its cycle, once it turns the traction back on, the button no longer works.

if you press it the light comes on and as soon as your release the light goes back off, to get it to basically work again you have to restart the car.

I think you actually may be holding the button down TOO long. Release it when the warning shows ONLY "WARNING - restricted stability", then try it.

Keep in mind that turning off traction/stability control doesn't change the fact that the car is AWD, and that quattro will still try to route power to the front wheels with the back wheels spinning. It's not going to be exactly the same sensation as drifting a RWD car....

yea i have tried it with a push, a press and hold like 5 sec to get the 2nd warning (which btw is the same warning if you push then push and hold). All three ways result in power cut and the rear snapping back in, even tried just going to an empty parking lot to spin donuts to no avail.

Maybe it's a S-Tronic Safety or maybe it is not an option for those of us who did not get the audi drive select with differential

Are you trying to do this on dry pavement? If so, why?

I mean two of the main purposes of AWD are to PREVENT spinning tires and to add stability. Donuts require spinning tires and INstability...

If you want to launch the car properly you should turn both stability systems off.

Re: ESP on my s4 b8

OP, what year is your car? In my 2010 A4, when I hold my button the DIS will actually say "ESP off."
I tried turning ESP off in my friend's 2012 6MT S4 and couldn't do it. I could tell I never fully disabled it because the stationary rev limiter stuck at 4k RPM - I believe with 6MT you can rev past 4k when ESP is disabled.

I have a 2013 with 6MT and the sport diff. If I press the button quickly I get the message: "Stabilization Control (ESC): Sport. Warning! Restricted Stability." If I hold it for 3-6 seconds, I changes from "Sport" to "Off". If I hold it longer than that the button ceases to work until I turn off the car. It will still light up the "ESC off" light above the cluster if you hold it down, but it turns off as soon as you release it.

Not sure why mine says sport instead of ASR off. Even my manuals says it is supposed to say ASR. Maybe this is something they changed for 2013 but didn't update the manual.

Very similar to mine, wonder if there's coding in vag to turn it to that, since it seems to be different from several cars

I have a 2013 Stronic. In dynamic it sends most of the power to the rear. I can do donuts very easily as most men will do in the snow. Mine shuts off fully the same as my 2010 did. This car is rear biased compared to my TT225 with Haldex. Even that one I could do donuts in.

I was able to do snow donuts with my old R32 that has FWD based haldex AWD and most importantly you can't turn off the ESP completely for Golf 5 R32 / 6 R. However for S4 press and hold the ESP button for 5 seconds will turn off the ESP completely.

I will upload a short video of my S4 donuts if I can find it.
