Nice, good to see updates and a company continually improving.

I always thought a bar graph would be a nice addition when viewing only one data parameter. For example, I have been in a few diesel trucks with Edge tuning and the controller uses bargraphs with some of the readouts, and allows the user to set the limits of it. For example i find it really useful for the pyro reading. It makes it easy to judge at a quick glance whats going on, and where its at. Just thought it might be a nice addition.

This is what i was trying to describe (not sure if the cluster screen has the resolution for something like this):

Have a feeling this thing would explode if the software or some kind of sdk were to be released over on nef.

that graphical representation is actually really smart. because like the rest of you, i'm not fond of looking away from the road to look at a gauge -- even one front and center in the dash.

What's a V1 radar? Hehe, you should know my "daily" is a minivan.

The PPD is recording temps at the turbo outlet now. The Auber/PPD combo works well. Here is a look at the discrepancy between temps before/after intercooling.

With this data now available, I can test a bigger intercooler as well as WMI, both of which will be installed shortly.

The turbo outlet temp is a lot cooler than I'd have thought, how far is the temp sensor from the compressor outlet?

This reading was taken from a low duty cycle run. 45%. So boost was ~16psi at peak and less than 14 by run's end. The temperature probe is 12-14" downstream from the turbo outlet.

Sorry to dig this back up but I feel like it was a really good discussion especially to learn a few things. My question is would it be redundant to run the euro dyne boostmaster and have the boost controller built into the ppd? I'm going to purchase the boostmaster with themeth kit here soon, so just wondering if I should not get the boost controller added to my ppd order

I had a FrankenFriend pass along his boost logs taken from the PPD unit in his (stock intercooler) car. This is a good illustration of how handy it is to have data for boost above the stock MAP sensor's limit. This is a pull to grab data for tuning via Josh at J-Fonz.

The PPD device (now marketed by Epic Tuning) has been re-purposed to monitor EGTs on our test car. The car had been experiencing exhaust valve float, and the ability to monitor EGTs was helpful during the troubleshooting process. After installing uprated SuperTech valve springs (with 100lbs seat pressure), we found valve float was eliminated and the car's EGTs dropped down to within acceptable limits. Here are graphs taken from PPD logs to show the resulting performance.

I assume the EGT sensor was an aftermarket one installed in the manifold, not tapping into the OEM sensor?

Yes. It's available here. And was hooked up via the Auber gauge I discussed earlier.

I am beating a dead horse, but I just came across another cluster display solution that uses a visual representation of the boost rather than just a numerical readout

I would rather use something like a horizontal bar gauge, but I like the general idea behind this.

If there was a revision that allowed one of the displays to represent the data in a visual way, I think I would sell my physical gauge for one of these in a second. I just like being able to glace and see a visual representation of what a readout is telling me, rather than seeing a number than having to compute what that means, and if its good or bad. I also prefer analog to digital readout formats though.

Anyway, thought I would share and hopefully give the programming crew a few potential ideas for their next update:

Something along the lines of this is what I am describing and would love if the next firmware update incorporated (pardon the large size of the GIF i forgot to lower the quality when making it)

Or maybe a permanent center line with a one pixel gap on either side to give an even greater point of reference (I thought of this after making the GIF so I didn't want to redo the whole thing lol):

I could just be the odd man out here too lol

Anyone know why my PPD would stop displaying anything, but I can still connect via the software? All stock info still displays on the bottom 2/3 of the DIC.

make sure you haven't put the display into "off" mode when manipulating the control stalk. Try cycling through the various display settings.

So I made a change I would have never thought I'd do.. My gauges are gone. I loved them dearly. The lights.. Oh the lights... They were the first thing people were like woweee what is that?! Now that I'm over that and care most about performance and maintaining that performance, I pulled the trigger on the PPD unit from STE.

First, Sean was a guy that I worked with back when I was remote flashing for VAST so I've known him for a few years at this point. He is a real good guy and this product that he worked on is really amazing how seamless the integration is. Installation is a bit tight, but, it does fit. Takes a little caressing like anything else done to our cars.

Over the past 7 years owning my car I've had the AWE gauge, then the newer AWE gauge, then a Podi (electrical then mechanical), then a VEI (which I loved the most) and now the PPD. I wasn't sure how I'd like it going from a gauge to it all in the cluster but after a spin with the car today I can't imagine it being any other way. You would think that Audi designed this thing.. It would have been part of some performance data package for 4k. Instead, it's $400 and worth every penny if you're serious into data on the fly without always logging.

Here's a shot of where I keep it, showing boost and AFR.

One click down shows me just boost, one up just AFR. After a WOT pull (can have both displayed like in my pic) I scroll back one to see what my boost profile looked like, aka where it peaked and and what RPM and what it tapered to and at what RPM. Then I can scroll to AFR and do the same.. Probably my favorite feature is that for the AFR because that is something that I've never logged before not having the extra Innovate components that allows you to do that.

Cycling through the other information shows me Oil and Coolant temp, then the "Begin Run" which allows you to do a 0-60 or FATS and have it spit back at you immediately after the run, and then the next is Speed and Intake Air Temp... So cool.

    Just wanted to share!

As far as I know, it is not possible to have anything else than pure text in the upper segment of the DIS screen. So you can't put a bar graph there.

I wonder why it would matter if its all just pixels. The Startup Screens use that space don't they?

oh, well, in that case just put it below then

There are different ways to access the DIS screen. The way the PPD does it, you just can have text in the upper segment. My FIS-Control uses two more modes that allow to also use the middle segment (for text and graphics) or to use the whole screen (I only use this for the startlogo feature). There is no mode to just use the upper segment in graphics mode. At least I haven't found it.

did it just stop being cost effective to produce?

That would be a bummer if they are no longer around, I was looking forward to the next round of updates holding my breath for a visual gauge readout.

My problems with the PPD were...

    1. It almost never showed up on my cluster
    2. Caused my gas gauge to not work
    3. Caused my coolant warning light to go off everytime I was in the car
    4. Boost controller never worked
    5. Shift light stopped working
    6. Never logged anything
    7. Stopped reading back AFR and Boost after pulls
    8. Stopped reading back 0-60, FATS, 60-130, etc data

I know people say to check the connections (that is all the "customer service" I got from STE), but I uninstalled and reinstalled at least 5 times since I bought it. Everything was 100% plugged in.

Looks like there is only a logo page up now at the http://www.getste.com/ site?? Anybody know if they are still in business? I have yet to install the boost controller and shift light, but the display has been working flawlessly.

Mine worked for about a week, then worked intermittently, then stopped showing up in the cluster. I got the same thing from STE "check your connections".
