    blown engine questions!!!

Just got an 03 a4. 1.8t fwd yesterday. blown engine for 2k. only 118k on body/tranny. Ive read a couple places about manual/auto swaps and transmissions. But my specific question is replacing my engine with one that was previously automatic/quattro either or. I cant find the thread where i saw someone did something close to this but they mention a pilot bearing was their only problem. Then a couple minutes ago i was reading that someone else had to also recode some things in their ecu. Will I either or/both these things if i buy an engine that was from an auto 1.8t? Does it matter if that engine was quattro and/or auto because mine is a FWD 5spd? Any answers will be appreciated. ive been in here for days and cant make a well informed decision lol

I'm pretty sure you can use a Quattro engine for your FWD. If you find an Automatic engine for cheap, all you have to do is add a pilot bearing to the crankshaft and you are set. I bought my car with 145k miles, but it had a swapped auto engine even though it was 5 speed Quattro.... I only found out because I upgraded the internals for a BT. Anyways, you can use AMB auto/manual, AWP auto/manual, maybe AMU I forget.

    Re: engine swap?

No need to worry about the ecu as long as yours works fine. Yes amb would probably be ideal but if you see an awp for cheap I woukd go for it.

i have so much to learn.

our AMB engines are longitudinal and the awp is transversal correct? im searching and dont see too much detail about this kind of swap
