Burton's old Danny Davis pro edition.

After this season I think I'm going to retire it to wall art and pick up the 2021 Burton "Deep Thinker" and maybe some stiffer bindings than the Cartel bindings I have. I just acquired Burton Photon boots at the beginning of the season. All my stuff is old already and I think I've outgrown the flying V. lol

My friend just got the step-in version and loves them, I just didn't want to deal with step on yet. First day break-in was ROUGH though. lol

If you didn't already and you're suffering, have your local shop heat them up for you. That helps a lot with shaping that V valley above the heel. They told me it takes about 4 days off the break-in period.

I was looking at Libtech and Arbor but after holding them, it's clear that Burton's channel system saves so much weight since they don't need as much metal in the construction.

The current Burton custom was the only kinda cool design they did recently but it's a flying V camber/rocker and that's what I already have. I don't hate the deep thinker even though rainbows aren't my thing. Lol better than the alternative in their lineup (the fight attendant).

The "flight attendant" is a directional board with the same camber/rocker profile as the "deep thinker" but the design is pretty lame IMO.

Here's the custom, my friend picked up this board with his step on bindings but tbh, I'm ready to go off the lift faster than he is. Maybe he just needs to get used to the step on design.

It's been great for an all mountain board. Handles like a dream but it gets a little bit vague at high speed which is a known characteristic of the flying V. I don't ride park which I think is where it really excels.

Not a park rider myself, prefer the standard grooms and back country when possible; define "high speed". I'm not a speed racer but there will be times where the boys wanna race down the mountain.

Anyone have experience with "Big Sky Resort" in Montana? My girl was telling me about it and I originally thought its a 'ski-only' resort.

I'm about 5 years later to this thread as a skier but oh well. Best friend has a place in big sky and have gone a number of times. No longer ski only for sure. Ton of terrain and a decent mix of stuff. It is lacking a bit in steepness especially mixed with glades but there is something for everyone and you can certainly find a way to get your legs burning if you want to. Would recommend, not sure how the snow is this year yet though.

I'm making my first ever trip out east to Stowe in a week (would love some suggestions) and then I'll be in CO for the yearly trip in March.

Fair definition.

My old Arbor Coda board was cambered and geared towards the harder snow out east. When I took it out west to CO, I noticed my board would often sink into the softer snow....I thought it was because I was a fat boy. I've never ridden on a rocker board so I might have to give the Rocker/Camber hybrid board a try.

Finally made it out to Vail last week, after a storm dropped some fresh snow. A year layoff due to rotator cuff surgery, and my old body resisted! But I had a good time until about 1pm when half of Denver showed up!

Reviving this thread from several years ago but for my West Coast and Canadian Gents/Ladies (or anyone in general), when was the last time you went to Whistler/Blackcomb? Any insights? Also, did you do helo-skiing excursion they offer?

I'm looking into making my first ever trek to a mountain outside of the US for some board time this coming 2025 Season! I re-upped on my Epic Pass with Veteran pricing so I intend to take full advantage of it this year and visit my northern friends; and also possibly die from my helo-ski excursion. Haha....

No night skiing that I'm aware of. I don't think they have lights on the mountain. Canadian customs won't be a problem but I'd be more worried about the airline luggage handlers.

We stayed at the Sundial Hotel right in the village. IMO it's worth it to stay in the village because it's a real proper ski village with shops, food, bars, music, slope side food and drinks, convenience store, etc... and it's all walk-able. There's no real reason to leave.

I wish we had something comparable in Tahoe but Heavenly is really segmented and split up, and all the other resorts have small villages or none at all.

This year since I'm going solo no compadre conmigo, I figured Whistler-Blackcomb because they had predicted average to below average in the central and southern parts of the west.

Our east coast/mid-atlantic resorts have been fortunate as of late so I'm getting a chance to take FULL advantage of the Pass this year....Whitetail had a nice "coating" earlier this month and Seven Springs got hit with a good amount of Lake-Effect snow while I was there, prior to the Inauguration. I hadn't seen actual "powdery fluffy" snow of this type, on this side, in about eight-plus years; definitely enjoyed the runs through actual glades/off-path trails!

I flew in this morning and currently trekking my way up to the mountains via the Skylnx Shuttle Bus…apparently, my silly self didn’t research this part of the leg enough and thought there would be shuttles on standby (like you would have at any resort) to get up there. I didn’t know you HAD to reserve a spot until an hour before I landed at YVR.

I spent more time looking at how to attack the mountain to maximize my trip 🤣

So I took it upon myself to make the P Diddy Problem Solver drink. It was very tasty, definitely something that could hide date rape drugs. lol

The portions I settled on were
1 or 2 shots of Red Berry Ciroc (to taste)
1 shot raspberry puree
2 shots Arizona tea brand Arnold Palmer

Also lime and mint are really good. Definitely will make it again when the weather warms up.

I noticed in the lower corner of your pic, you went to the Beacon Pub/Eatery, which is NOT directly next to the two Gondolas….i went and the drink you had posted wasn’t there. I think the closest was something called the Beacon Bad Boy Ceasar? I saw it and stayed true to my normal bourbon route, went with the Salted Caramel Old Fashion paired with their burger, a side of poutine AND additional app of fried pickles!

Lol, I was f—king famished from an entire day of riding Blackcomb. I did however try something called “the Inception Bomb” At El Furniture Warehouse; think Irish Carbomb and Yagerbomb dropped into one beer pitcher. The two spots, well three, next to the Gondolas at Upper Village were Longhorn, Blacks and Dub Linns…those places were always packed with people; Longhorn had a DJ Wednesday through the Saturday I was there. Merlin’s was over by the Blackcomb Express Gondola on the otherside , I did not partake this venue.

Heli-Skiing was a f—king blast and something for any avid ski/board with strong intermediate to advance skills to try once or several times in their life! We went on three runs but was given a fourth to close out our day but lol, I felt like such a newb on my board riding that glacier powder. On our second leg, second half of the run down Traverse @ Tremor, I caught more speed than I was use to, tried to shed speed by buttering, caught a heel edge that dug me INTO the powder and poof, airborne and flips into the powder half way down the glacier! Hahaha, my softest yardsale wipeout ever 🤣🤣.

I will be honest and say I was humbled by this Canadian resort! Colorado Blues and Blacks were like the standard greens and blues up there or perhaps I suck and wasn’t the strongest intermediate that I thought I was. Haha, regardless, the trails/runs at both Whistler and Blackcomb were some of the most incredible scenic trails I’ve ever ridden!! My first two days there were graced by back to back snow showers that dumped something like 8-10 on those days, paired with the storms they had come through a week before…ugh, glorious opportunity to run off trails for powdered side bumps or full off-piste heaven!

I’ve never encountered such an experience stateside but to get this chance in Canadia, thank you Jeebus! I wish I could’ve stayed for the Invictus Games 2025 that was set to start that Sunday, the day after I left.

Either they moved or I'm mistaken but I feel pretty certain that I took that picture at the bar by the gondola. Maybe not, it was years ago at this point.

Looks like a great time. Whistler is my #1 favorite mountain and village of all time, even still after going to Aspen and Snowmass.

Not sure if you know but I have a ranch in Montana which is 40 minutes away from a great ski area.
Two thumbs down for Big Sky. Too many people and the prices are extremely high. The terrain is nice, but if you are after terrian Bridger is the one to go to but they are extremely crowded and expensive as well.
At our local, better snow quality, no crowds and low prices (299$ season passes - 30$ daily lift tickets) , Showdown, Montana.
70% black diamonds, 20% blue groomers and 10% bunny hills. Last week they got 7 ft of dry montana powder in 5 days.
It is quite cold there though, -20 is pretty standard, but this means no melt and powder turns in packed powder not ice.
Open invitation to come stay at my ranch and do some skiing the fun way. I can't remember the last time I had to wait in a lift line.
Maybe we could do a GCC ski trip next year. I'd be happy to host, plenty of room at the ranch to accommodate.
Would be nice to see some of my old gcc friends Marty, Adam., Slow, Eric, Tu...etc Could be fun

Is Big Sky that crowded? I just recently saw video of an avalanche that buried one of the lifts. I was told about it and since Ive yet to visit Yosemite, I wanted to see if I could do both since I'm out that way.
