That would be about it. If you guys fly in on the weekend, though, be prepared for traffic. Mid-week would likely be best.

I know... it's tough to grasp at first, especially coming from a racing background. If you keep a very forward COM in powder, you're going to have a tough time. Think of it like waterskiing. If you were to have a forward COM, you'd be tasting a lot of water, right?

Ok, that I can relate to.

Slalom water skiing is much more dynamic regarding your COM. Coming off the second wake when you start to initiate your edge change, you want a brief moment of your body weight forward to decelerate the ski. But if you go too far forward or for too long, once you are carving, you will submarine the ski and wreck. Conversely, once you make the edge change and head back towards the wake, you want to bend the knees, arms straight, lean back like in tug of war and hold the fuck on. But, lean too far back and you wheelie the ski and your speed is gone and you wreck. Of course by the time you are at that part in the turn, it's not uncommon to be traveling at 60+ mph.

It's about a 1:20 drive without any traffic. So if you're driving up on a Thursday morning or afternoon, about an hour and a half.

But I've heard some horror stories about 4hour+ drives home to Denver from the Breck/Keystone area after 4pm on Saturdays/Sundays, when there's heavy traffic and poor road conditions.

That's why I'm driving up on thursday afternoons and coming home Monday afternoons :)

Ah....so like SoCal suggested, a midweek visit is better?

I'm also going to toy with the idea of Tahoe or Mammoth if costs for CO is too high.

Would you be willing to head further west if this became a reality?

actually it's 1:20 to silverthorne (where my place is) from Denver - then breck is like another 20-30 from there.

If there's a big GTG at one of the Tahoe mountains I might go

    Seeing a lot of skiers....

I snowboard. Pretty simple setup, DC Core board
    Burton Invader boots
    K2 BlacK bindings
    Forget what brand audio helmet..

I just can't wait to throw some was on and get some time carving and at the park.

Tahoe would be better than Mammoth. Worst part of Mammoth is getting there. You either fly into Reno and drive. Fly into LA and drive. Or fly into either and take a puddle-jumper to Mammoth International Airstrip. The scene in Tahoe is better. The snow in Mammoth may be better. Meh, it's a toss up.

March is usually pretty decent. April is hit or miss - somedays are slammed with powder, others with rain. We'll see how the season stacks up. The best thing about April is the sunny days and girls riding/skiing in bikinis.

We were talking about from the airport which is 20-30 minutes further away, hence the 2-2.5 hours to breck.

Went to see Warren Miller's Flow State last night.

I would say it was average for a Warren Miller film. Not one of my favorites, but still worth going. They plugged a 20 minute environmentalist as the last segment of the film. Pretty lame actually.

They are giving away insane prizes this year. Grand prize is 9 days in Whistler, all inclusive. Another prize is 7 days on a 65 foot sail boat in Norway, with heli-skiing.

local sponsors gave away good stuff too. I got day passes to sugarbush, and buy one get one free at sunday river and sugarloaf.

Yeah, I always figure I'll never win the good stuff. The beanies, shirts, and lift tickets are fine, though. We usually get Mammoth, Heavenly, and a couple smaller mountains for tix.

    FYI:

I'm not sure if this applies to the other ski resorts/mountains but at Liberty, Roundtop and Whitetail Mountains, they're offering a free lift ticket (or discounted lessons) for any active duty first responder (EMS/Fire/Police) and active duty military (with valid ID)

    2/5 - Roundtop
    2/6 - Liberty
    2/13 - Whitetail

For the other mountains, just google "operation thank you [insert mountain/resort]"

cornice - the easiest of the runs off the top. and in dire need of about 10 more feet of snow. with about 15 more feet of snow, you will have cornices at the top, where you jump off - up to you on how much air you want. 1 foot to 15 or more, on to a somewhat steep landing = haulin a$$.
