I do run the course. I can consistently run the course at 15 off at 32 mph, I'm working on 28 off at 30 mph.

And no, nothing about slalom, course or open water is boring.

If I'm not on the water, I'm on the snow. I enjoy both sports equally.

Good on you. For me and my family, it's boring. I've been water skiing since I could walk almost. Last I skied I was running 15' off @ 36 mph. I was getting like 3ish @ 22' off. My brother runs like 3-4 buoys into 39 1/2' off last I checked.

Growing up my family and Uncle's family had leased a pond from the city and set up a course. They/we skied there for about 15 years. then the city wouldn't renew the lease due to possible water contamination. My family was forced to go to public lakes and resiviors if they wanted to ski. I remember going a couple times (I was like 9-10) and we all hated it so no one ever went but 2-3 times a year. Then we found a new pond a few years later and have been skiing there 3 times a week since. Well they have been, I found skateboarding when I was in high school so waterskiing went to the back burner. I do miss it sometimes.

PS - Don't shorten the rope until you get up to 36mph. And most consider 15' off the starting rope. Running a full rope isn't necessary.

@blackmamba, that tunnel looks like snowbird utah right?

Anyways, hit the slopes of A-basin yesterday. Snow was poor, and there were only two runs open but lezbehonest i just went for the party in the parking lot where i had to take a shot of 1800 silver tequila, pickle juice, and mustard for my poor flip-cup performance.

yup, I'm well aware. I've never even used our tournament line with the red 15 off section actually on the rope. I just said 15' off because I wasn't sure how savy people were when it comes to slalom.

Not to hijack the thread, back to the snow!

I also know 36 is tournament speed, I've skied 36 open water a bunch of times, but never in the course. Don't have the timing yet.

Who's ready to hit the mountains?

The guy at my local ski/skate/bike shop told me that Killington is opening this weekend since they supposedly got dumped on.

    Any truths to this?

Also, the weather report says the MidAtlantic is getting another potential "northeaster" in regards to snow, ice and rain mix ups.

    Excited.

    do you want to gamble?

South Shore has Gambling - so Kirkwood is prob the class of the south shore, but there's also Heavenly - it used to be the largest ski area in the US.

North Shore - Squaw, Northstar, Alpine, sierra and host of smaller areas. take a look at a map and figure out a game plan - driving from side to side of the lake will take time, with snow its much longer and gets congested...

We're really looking for a fun town. Im going with my girlfriend and some of her friends so we want it to be a fun/nice area. We also want to stay close to the mountain. Preferably somewhere on a shuttle stop so we dont have to drive much.

I am an average snowboarder so I am not looking for anything crazy. They are all basically beginners. I like light trees, and small terrain parks

kirky is awesome then. its has alot of natural bowls up on top, with some decent snow it will offer some cornices to jump off (beginners es no bueno), then as you come down, there's no natural gulleys that are super fun to do banker turns off (ala surfing). there's some fun smaller areas like Donner, Sierra and Mt Rose etc, tickets are cheaper and there's less crowds. places like Heavenly, Squaw, alpine, Northstar, and even kirky can get crowded.

one thing from most of the resorts is the view

looks like there's a ticket plan that covers multiple mtns - http://www.skilaketahoe.com/lake-tah...2012-13-season

and yes there's rideable terrain on the big island.

I would agree with my friend Marc, to an extent. Having lived in South Lake Tahoe for 18+ years, I feel perfectly qualified to answer the question. Based on what you're looking to do, I'd recommend South Lake Tahoe. I'd recommend you stay at "Stateline" or in that area. You can get some decent deals at the casinos (Harveys, Harrahs, Mont Blue), or you can try and find an open room at the Marriott properties just down the street. A gondola leaves from the Marriott properties, and heads up to Heavenly. That's the way to go. So long as the mountain is completely open (which it barely did last season), Heavenly is plenty challenging. Mott and Killebrew honestly give near as anything at Kirkwood that's not hike-to a run for it's money. Kirkwood is way too far away. HWY 88 out to Kirkwood closes often - if it's snowing. You'll be stuck out there. Do I love the 'Wood? Yep. It's not the best option for most "tourists", though. Locals, people staying for significant period of time, or those that know their way around - it's perfect.

I'd still recommend you hit up Northstar, on the North Shore, though. At least for a day trip. Based on your described abilities, I think you'd enjoy Northstar.

    Agree to disagree, Marc!

Colorado is great. Utah is great. Canada is great. Wyoming is greater! If you want challenge, you head to Jackson. Bottom line!

I've never had issues with drinking in Utah. They changed their laws in the last few years, so it's not as big a deal anymore.

Sun Valley is high up on my list of places. Of course, that's after I get back to Jackson, Whistler, Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, the Montana resorts, the and Utah resorts...better to skiing!

The Utah flight from LA to SLC is so easy. In/Out...up/down. Much like Bllzll's sex life. Super easy.

I'm hearing snow in the locals also. That would be nice...but it won't last. Damn 90 degree SoCal days kill the mood.

Colorado is great. Utah is great. Canada is great. Wyoming is greater! If you want challenge, you head to Jackson. Bottom line!

I've never had issues with drinking in Utah. They changed their laws in the last few years, so it's not as big a deal anymore.
I have a hypothetical question. Lets say there's a small select few on the east coast that would like to venture west for a ski/snowboarding weekend trip.

What area would be the ideal "adventure"?

What area would be cheapest (including airfare)?

What area would have the greatest V:C ratio?

    Montana?
    Utah?
    Colorado?
    Wyoming?

if you want an adventure - i'd say Jackson Hole or Big Sky.

keep in mind however, these mtns are not easy - there's not gonna be groomers all over. its steep and deep.

JARED my pass is good at a couple of places in Tahoe (and I can buy discounted passes too.)

Let's plan a trip there. Split hotels or find an AZ'r to stay with. I bet Alex and his girl Sammy would be down too.

Tu's not invited unless he brings a female. Otherwise I'll wake up with him snuggled between Rachael and I with his thumb in his mouth.

Agree with Marc, partially. I think Jackson, WY is going to be your best bet for adventure and your v/c ratio. Never seen so many athletic ladies that would kick your ass (and badass cowboys, if you're into that). Killer scene. But not on the cheap. Getting there pretty much sucks. That said, you can hook some deals on Lodging, flights, and tix through their booking system: http://www.jacksonhole.com/lodging-packages.html.

To be honest, I think your best bet is really Tahoe. Cheap women, easy flights, and plenty of adventure.

I think THIS is the direction GCC wants to head in....

....if only someone would get off their nuts to set it up.
