    Backup LED Bulbs need resistors

    Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    A friend of mine just installed 1156 backup LEDs on his B7 and ran 25w6ohm resistors. The resistors got way too hot and started to melt wiring on the resistor so now he needs a new resistor. Does anyone know that is a proper resistor wattage and ohm to run LED in backup lights?
    I'm guessing 25w6ohm might be too small? Would we have to increase wattage or ohm so this wont happen again?

    25w 10-15 Ω Resistor should do the trick.

    we used 25w 6ohm and it got VERY hot. I cant imagine 4ohms making that much difference?

    50w 6ohm is what i see everywhere but im also curious tho as to when you use too high of a resistor the output of the LED get hurt by it and its not operating at full potential. Is that true?

    Is there a reason why you are using them?
    I have leds in mine with no problems.

    Some cars need them some card dont. Its not on my car its my buddies.

    Hes got the bixenon convenience package. Hid LP bulbs throw codes too but we replaced those with canbus and now its good.
    Reverse bulbs are only ones that are left to figure out.

    How long is your buddy driving in reverse lol? resistors will only heat up when said led is ON. I used to have LED turn signals before I got LED tail lights. I installed resistors and left them behind the lights, with all the wires. 2 years and no melting.

    Could it be because system always sends power to it to monitor if bulb out or not?

    OK.

    W=A^2xΩ
    or
    Ω=W/(A^2)

    Therefore you are almost doubling at 10Ω/25W which would be slightly less than doubling wattage (approx. 41.6W/6Ω) where 15Ω/25W would be approx 58.3W/6Ω equivalent. I was simply stating what I used in mine and have no issues/codes/flickering/burnt bulbs etc and they are still very white and bright.

    So yeah, 4Ω can definitely make that much of a difference.
