Wow thanks. I just took my son’s intake off to put new injectors in and I found your post by accident. I was going to try and clean but didn’t know how or what with. Thanks again. I was also trying to figure out what those plates are called because a little plastic nipple broke off on one. So tumble flaps eh?

    missing tumble flaps

I just removed my intake header and while there are slots for the tumble flaps, none are installed.

Were there versions of this engine which did not have those, or is this a mistake?

I had stumbling while warming up at idle, no check engine light, reasonable fuel mileage.

Not succeeding at attaching images, but my valves look pretty typical for this mileage, not badly blocked but a lot of deposit.

Someone likely removed them for "power" but the stock intake manifold directs all flow to one side of the flap to increase air velocity during startup and low speed engine operation, which creates better mixing with GDI engines. I would replace them and you'll likely have easier starts and low speed engine smoothness.
