New wheels came from Alex @ TAG Motorsports, opti coated them while they were fresh out of the boxes.

Come to find out, the ADS cars come with a 0.5" plastic spacer (REAR ONLY), as the ADS springs are shorter than the non-ads equipped springs.

Greg @Eurocode informed me of this head scratcher after I couldn't figure out why my H&R OE springs were sitting higher than comparable cars.

I had to actually put the car back on the lift and take the spacer out, and now all is well.

FYI for you ADS equipped cars.

#11 is actually comprised of two different pieces on the ADS cars.

    Fender measurements

    Before:
    Front/Left: 26.10
    Front/Right: 26.15
    Rear/Left: 27
    Rear/Right: 26.75

    After removal of plastic piece:
    Front/Left: 26.10
    Front/Right: 26.15
    Rear/Left: 26.5
    Rear/Right: 26.25

When we do any spring install on a ads car, we remove the plastic spacer to ensure the car sits as the customer has expected.

The way I understand it, the rear spring on ADS equipped cars is shorter. So therefore to achieve the same stock height, they use a plastic spacer.

When you stack the H&R up next to the OE rear spring, it is not that much shorter.

I installed the rear springs with the spacer, and the rear was actually sitting much higher (rake effect) than the front. This is what got me searching (took over a month to figure this out) and contacting various vendors (including H&R themselves). It may sound trivial for such a cheap mod, but half the reason is for the look, and I wasn't satisfied knowing it was wrong. Greg from Eurocode actually solved the mystery, after I called him and asked that maybe my height was being affected by sway bar preload (as I installed their full USS system), as the rear sway bar endlinks are not adjustable like the fronts.

Thursday night I took the spacer out, and reinstalled the springs. The car sits how others do on the forums (comparatively), and the wheel gap is now consistent with the front.

Non-ADS cars do not have the plastic spacer, so I am 100% positive that it will need to be removed for the H&R springs to sit the way they were intended.

Additionally, the ride is much better now that the spring is stretched out to spec.

This is with the spacer removed.

    Much bettar.

Dyno'd my AWE Exhaust and Intake today. I am pretty sure my eurocode stuff added at least 1hp to the graph :)

    SAME DYNO, DIFFERENT DAYS
    Drive Select: Dynamic
    Gear: 3
    Traction control: off
    Octane: 92
    Car Mileage: ~1270 miles
    Tires: Blizzak LM-60's
    Dyno: Dynojet HPE 650
    Place: http://www.carbconn.com

    STOCK DYNO RUN:
    66.6F / 45% Humidity / Pressure 29.3 in-Hg

    AWE DYNO RUN:
    60.7F / 61% Humidity / Pressure 30.3 in-Hg

    Run File_3= Stock
Run File_9= AWE Exhaust +AWE Intake

    (1) Uncorrected / No Smoothing
    Stock_HP: 300.92 / AWE_HP: 310.61 (+9.69)
    Stock_TQ: 286.53 / AWE_TQ: 291.82 (+5.29)

    (2) SAE / No Smoothing
    Stock_HP: 300.92 / AWE_HP: 310.61 (-5.10)
    Stock_TQ: 286.53 / AWE_TQ: 291.82 (-8.59)

    (3) 4th Gear Pulls
    Stock_HP: 280.05 / AWE_HP: 284.10 (+4.05)
    Stock_TQ: 284.89 / AWE_TQ: 291.03 (+6.14)

And here is a buddy of mine's response to asking which graph to use (SAE vs. Uncorrected):

Cliff Notes: Use uncorrected Dyno numbers (no SAE correction or smoothing) with forced induction engines.

Quote Originally Posted by my honda engineer friend

The typical relationship to power is: as Temp increases Power decreases, as
pressure increases power increases, as humidity increases power decreases.
Looking at the conditions for run 3 the pressure was very close to
standard. That's why run 3 didn't show much change between Uncorr and SAE.

The temp, pressure and humidity all were different between run 3 and run 9.
In run 9 the temp went down and the pressure went up. The actual humidity
was probably quite close to the same, as Relative humidity % is dependant
on the temp. So temp down and pressure up explains why the SAE correction
would have your Run 9 power down. The problem is that the SAE correction
factor, especially for pressure, doesn't work well for forced induction
engines. The turbo is controlling the pressure entering the intake system,
not the atmosphere. There was likely very little to no difference in
cylinder pressure during your 2 runs. On top of that you have an
intercooler influencing intake air temp, and changing the effect of air
temp on actual power from the SAE correction.

So I'd recommend looking at the Uncorrected numbers to judge the mods in
    this case.

The smoothed vs un-smoothed doesn't really make much of a difference.
Unsmoothed is just a straight line drawn between each point of data.
Smoothed is a best fit curve between points to help eliminate noise and
outlying points. I don't know what the sampling rate was in these runs.
If its very high a smoothed line can be very accurate and better to use.
If the sampling rate is low smoothing can introduce more error. Remember
the max power and torque number really isn't very meaningful. The
important thing is area under the curve, or the gap area between the line
of the runs being compared. Based on the Uncorrected graph I'd say this
intake and exhaust gave you a nice increase especially at high rpm
    Just an FYI.

    Background:
After installing the Eurocode's USS suspension kit myself (sways, links, Alu, etc.), I liked their build quality-- and most importantly -- the performance gains met my expectations.

I purchased an AWE exhaust and intake from Alex @Tag Motorsports (and BBS wheels) -- loved the system. It gave me a dyno proven 10whp gain on pump gas. The sound was great, droned @1500-2000 RPMS with slight throttle, but I was happy with the overall sound it provided.

Eurocode's headers were always on the radar, but I just spent $2K+ on an exhaust and didn't want to spend another $3500 (with install) on the header package. I also was on the fence of whether or not I wanted to go that far modifying the car -- afterall I was waiting for Stasis to come out with their tune.

Well, once I convinced myself that headers were a worthwhile modification, (and a little research) I realized I had a little problem with the AWE exhaust being too loud with the catless headers. I needed a Milltek resonated system to mate with the new headers, but that would take weeks to procure from the local distributor.

    Enter Eurocode.

I called up Greg and told him my situation, and we cooked up an awesome solution. He'd sell me Dave's milltek system (off his own car), and Dave would install my AWE on his car until the new milltek's came in from the UK. I was definitely impressed with the fact that they were willing to do that.

After driving from Seattle to Los Angeles (wife was visiting with my daughter @Disneyland, so I surprised them), I dropped off the car the next morning with Greg. They installed the headers in one day. Since I was visiting friends (ie. drinking that night) I told Eurcode to keep it overnight and take their time.

    Recap of Eurocode's Customer Service:
-Great deal on the installation since I was driving from Seattle
-The owner gave me the exhaust off his own car, since they couldn't get one in time for my impromptu road trip
-Sold me Greg's headers he was going to put on his own car
-Boxed up and shipped my old exhaust to the buyer
-Free tank of gas to get me home, and a comped the alignment because their local guy took forever to complete

    Impressions:
After driving it for 24 hours, I can say without a doubt the power increase is noticeable. The torque comes on sooner, and it pulls with more gusto towards redline. Remember, I drove down fromSeattle (1200 miles) just a few days ago, so the stock feel is still in my muscle memory. It just breathes better.

The AWE system was installed on Dave's car, and it is so fucking loud that you would have to be 21 to think its cool (wink: Auditude). The milltek on the other hand is almost as quiet as a stock system while putting around town, but throws the V8 bark when you step on it. The sound of the Milltek with the headers is great, it is definitely different from the AWE lamborghini tone, but it is OH so sweet sounding (both inside and outside the car).

Most importantly, it is wife approved. She thought the AWE was too loud, the new exhaust is "great!"

Inside the cabin, it is a civil sounding combination. It idles the same, cold starts much quieter than with the AWE, and has considerably less drone in 7th gear @2k rpm vs. the AWE (even with Headers!). Surprisingly, I almost find the milltek/header combination quieter than a stock AWE system.

    Milltek:

    AWE:

    Conclusion:
If I were to do it all over again, I would go Milltek from the beginning and install headers before I get an exhaust to begin with (stock pipes if necessary). Exhaust is basically for sound, and the headers give this to you with a healthy performance gain to boot. Pound for pound, its more logical and economical for the gains to get headers. I am a believer.

Next up: GIAC tune tomorrow @10am

great setup. just installed awe intake and catback. love it so far, felt a difference right away in power , very exotic sounding exhaust. did too many 1st -3rd gear pulls in one day lol. headers are definately something id consider for power gains, but would only do it with miltek ofcourse. headers and awe is crazy loud!! lol

are you going for st.1 giac first? granted that st.2 and pulley isnt out, unless your getting special treatment:(.

trying to convince myself to just get st.1 for now , cause im dying for a tune :(.

+1, this is correct! The B8.5 Stage II tune will be released along with B8. According to my conversations with GIAC the B8.5 DSG Tune may take a bit longer to be released due to new torque monitoring functions in the ECU for the B8.5s..... just my luck :-)

yup, its fully seated. Remember, I flashed in Irvine and drove into Seattle two days later....

Tune is great -- coupled with the headers-- it really gave me the low end torque I was craving. I could care less about peak HP, I WANT MORE TORQUE! lol

On these cars, the Downpipes are located after the headers and cats to provide additional sound tuning. No performance gains to be had, just a change in overall volume. Headers are where you would pick up additional power due to a restrictive factory system.

    UPDATED DYNO RUNS:

    2013 Audi S4
    DSG transmission
    92 Octane
Eurocode Headers (eliminated all cats from exhaust system)
    Roc-Euro Intake
    Milltek Exhaust (Resonated)
GIAC ECU Stage 1 Flash (91 Map)

    3rd Gear Gains (File: 3 & 17):
    HP: +77.54
    TQ: +62.67

    4th Gear Gains (Files: 1&11):
    HP: +77.40
    TQ: +52.47

Right on par with my expectations.

Interesting Note: The more runs I did, the higher my peak HP numbers (as I reset the ECU only a day before my appointment, which resets the adaptation).

I probably would have thrown higher peak numbers, if I did one more cool down but my 1-hour appt. was up. Either way, I'm happy with the gains!
