went 11.9@116 last year. 110/pump mix, maybe ~45 degrees out. Haven't gone back since. My s4 sits in a garage basically the entire school year so I don't have much time.

I think at Show and Go this fall I want to throw a couple gallons of race gas in and see what happens to my trap. Two years ago I did a high 12 or low 13 I forget (terrible start) at 115.95mph on 93 and meth... Full weight all that jazz at Etown. I really think with race gas I'll be at or just over 120, don't you think? Same day a buddy went 112mph on pump and with race went 124, lol.

You need to adjust your tune to really get any benefit from race gas, unless your current tune is too aggressive for pump... I put some 109 in my tank when I went to ATCO and I didn't notice any difference in ET or trap.

    Good run there Jesse!

Yeah, definitely.. I would make sure I was at a safe AFR on a pass and then gradually add timing making to take advantage of it. In my buddies RS6 car the difference was insane.. All that timing down low made it feel like a freight train pulling!

If your tune is tuned for Pump gas and you run Race Gas you'll often make LESS power

Well that guy (Agron) who went up 12mph basically did some minor fuel adjustments and lemmi'd a whole bunch of timing in. haha.. But yeah, I know what you're saying

I wouldn't say 'often' if you're talking about the B5 S4. I'd say 'very rarely'.

Thats because a lot of "pump gas" s4 tunes run way too much timing and let the ecu pull timing out that way they "pick timing back up" by running race gas. Thats what my vast tune was setup to do, it pulled like 5-6 degrees on pump and gained it all back with race gas in the tank.
RIP Daz, you will be missed.

Yeah, I'd say like 99% of B5 S4's will gain (or at least not lose anything) by running race gas, even on their pump gas tunes.

There are a lot of better tunes out there now that don't throw a shit load of timing at the cars. but technically speaking if it wasn't knocking then race gas will make less power :P science and shit says so.

I'm not debating the science behind anti-knock rating and performance; I'm saying that in practical reality I haven't heard of a single Audi B5 S4 that verifiably made less power on race gas than pump gas, all tunes inclusive, and that on the contrary, I have heard of countless Audi B5 S4's that have made more power running race gas than pump gas, even limiting that last sample group to 'pump gas tunes'. That's it, that's all.

If your read the words I wrote. I said "If your tune is tuned for Pump gas", meaning tuned correctly.
As stated most are not tuned correctly and pull way too much timing.

Comparing 93 octane to race gas is like comparing Sierra Nevada Pale Ale to a Lagunitas Pale Ale; yeah the Lagunitas will get you a bit more drunk and it costs a bit more, but in the end most people won't notice much of a difference unless you're really looking for it (or tuning for it).

Now try comparing 91 octane to a race gas... That's like a Coors Light compared to a double oaked Arrogant Bastard.

Sorry I'm thinking of beer right now =(

Doesn't matter how awesome it is if you're not tuned for it; unless you're pulling massive timing already, there isn't going to be much of an improvement in actual performance beyond whatever your tune is capable of. If you're running an aggressive 93 octane based tune on California 91, throwing race gas in there is going to be absolutely awesome, but that's because you likely had massive CF's. Run a mild 93 tune with no cf's on 100 or 104 and you're just not going to see much of any improvement.

So no, race gas in itself is not awesome; the massive timing that is possible is what is awesome.
