    Idle Rev Limiter..."Launch Control"???

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
First off...I searched and googled, and came up with nothing.

I've had my 2009 B8 A4 Manual for a couple of weeks now and just noticed that while stopped, there is a rev limiter. It's acting like a launch control of some sort. It will only rev up to about 4000RPM. The car is completely stock...so I was wondering if this is normal or what? Also, are there options to change it?

Reason I'm asking is that once I get the car tuned how I want it, the 4000RPM might bog down and need to be raised to 4500 or so. Just curious. Thanks

This is normal and is like that for all audis. Safe guard to prevent over revving while in neutral or when the car is standing idle.

It's not like that for all Audis. I say this because I've owned 3...this is the first one that's done it. This is my first B8 though, so it must be normal for the B8.

    Anyone know if it's removable?

It is a standard "feature" on the B8 2.0T and the turbo does not really spool much if you are in neutral either.

You would probably bog down since you won't be building any boost. It's not anti-lag. I'm not sure on the B8's, but you can self tune for an anti-lag feature using the stock ECU. Builds about 6-7 pounds of boost.

My APR stage 2 does not let me? Not that I really care to, but just interesting. Only know because revved it up a bit after getting my new IC installed. Maybe I'm missing something (or maybe I'm accidently in stock mode and I have more power left?).

I've tried launching my car at like 3500rpm's but I find when I let my foot off the brake the rpm's just drop and the car accelerates as normal.

Do u drop the clutch or use a 2 step method? I thought dropping the clutch lead to bogging unless u had a tune. In that case idk

I have the 7-speed Stronic gearbox so no clutch for me. Well there are two clutches, I just don't have control over them

This is "feathering" a clutch...and will burn it up pretty quick. Also, once you get into aftermarket clutches, this is much more difficult to do.

You're going to have bogging unless you have more torque than stock...but I plan on doing a lot of upgrades, so I also wanted to know how to remove that limiter, so I can launch at 4500-4700, where it should be for this AWD car.

you seem like you know more than me so im going to take this opportunity and ask a couple questions lol. Isnt it safer on the transmission but rougher on the clutch if you feather it? and why is it more difficult to feather an aftermarket clutch? i always thought dropping the clutch was really bad because of transmission shock. clutch is always replaceable but the transmission is a bigger deal.

I believe the rev limiter turns off when you turn off DSC. Press and hold for 8+ secs.

I don't claim to know a lot, but I have spent a lot of time at the track and have built up several cars. I would never recommend "dropping the clutch"...feathering is going to be better, but that doesn't mean it needs to be drawn out too longer either...and higher RPMs are still needed to get the desired launch. The reason feathering is harder on an aftermarket clutch is because the "space" between when the clutch BEGINS to engage and is FULLY engaged is much much shorter and very exact on a good clutch (especially higher in the "Stages" that you go and "Street" vs "Race" clutches). Hope that makes sense.

Didn't even think of that...that did it. Held down the ESP button until it completely shut off, then I can rev past the 4k...peeled out a few times too ;)

This is a joke right? The only fluid in a manual transmission is in the gear box and hydraulic fluid to operate clutch. The clutch/pressure plate itself is a dry system.
