And I changed out the fogs for some full-on yellow ones. Didnt come through great in the photo, but they're quite yellow in person. Much better than the ones I took out. Same ones @Killerboots uses. Happy with them so far.

No mods today, but i did....

    - Cleaned oil system with Liqui Moly Pro-Line Engine Flush
    - Changed oil/filter (Shell Rotella T6 5w-40 + Mann Filter)
    - Cabin Air filter
    - Cleaned and recharged K&N
    - New NGK Platinum plugs
    - New EBC Red rear brake pads
    - Rotated Tires
    - Installed new Bosch Platinum AGM S6 battery
    - Used VCDS to change battery serial, enable battery level meter, and changed lighting so LED's under headlights remain on while turn signal is in use as well as keeping fogs on during high beam use.

I had a few more things to do, but i'm beat. Will be doing the following tomorrow:

    - Update MMI 3G HDD firmware
    - Update MMI 3G HDD Navigation Maps from 2010 to 2017. (i'm tired of my nav directing me to kill myself at some of the new freeway interchanges here in SoCal)
    - Clean car with good ol' honeydew snow foam, followed by claybar, then some Meguiars M105 followed by M205. Haven't decided on what sealant or wax to go buy yet. Suggestions?

Met up with a local A5 owner that was selling the Dinan piggyback. It's a pretty cool little product and will hopefully help hold me over until I go stageII

I'm not posting this in the CL finds thread, because I am more curious what people have to say about this exhaust. I have personally never heard of Ulter, or this option.

You could do something like this custom at a muffler shop for way, WAY less. You could even do catback for less...

I'm set in the exhaust department, just curious on the thoughts regarding the brand and the sound. I understand that there are better options out there lol.

How’d you f that one up? You took the bumper off so this wouldn’t happen Couldn’t you put the lip on by jacking the car up on a rhino ramp or what ever they’re called?

Doesn't your car come with MMI 3G+? My car has the older MMI 3G with the hard drive built in, two SD card slots, and an in-dash DVD drive. Also, it has a little joystick on the MMI control knob on the center console. There are many types of MMI and you REALLY need to make sure which is yours because updating with the incorrect software will brick your unit.

I did a lot of reading over at www.a5oc.com before doing the upgrade. There are some very active threads there but keep in mind most of the software on that site is for Europe. But the concept is the same. You'll see how many people screw things up because they didn't read the instructions thoroughly.

Here are the instructions on how it's done.

    https://www.docdroid.net/mqjDVM2/upd...mmi-3g-v17.pdf

The software can be obtained through Audi I believe and it's very expensive and is installed using SD Cards. The process is not something you rush into because it's not very user friendly and any mistake can cause your MMI system to become an expensive door stop, or better yet a wheel chalk.

You can also get the software from other sources both legal and less than legal but i wont go any further detail on that.

I’m not doing the work. USP Motorsports is. New timing chain, tensioner and guides. Control arm bushings are starting to dry rot so they are installing 034 Motorsports street density full upper and lower control arm kit. And since the have to do an alignment after I figure they might as well install 034 Motorsports adjustable rear tow links while they’re at it. That’s all my budget allows. USP just did a walnut blast carbon cleaning last month.

What was your carbon situation like? Getting the Walnut blast done in a month at 95k

I was having some hesitation during acceleration. thought it might me a MAP sensor or something. USP Motorsports is right down the street from me so they did it last month. My 2010 Avant 97k miles that's for sale had a rough idle when you turned off A/C and put it in gear. Noticed when someone was looking it over to buy it. Took it USP and it needed a carbon cleaning as well. Potential buyer never came back :(
My wife's 2012 Q5 2.0T has 108,000 miles on it and has never had a carbon cleaning. USP said they have never seen one go that many miles without one before. Both my 2010 A4 and the wife's 2012 Q5 both have had the BG induction cleaning service done at the Audi dealer every other time it went in for scheduled service. and in between I did the Seafoam spray can treatment into the intake. so I guess it helped. someone will get a nice clean engine when they buy my 2010. My wifes Q5 will get a cleaning done soon. and my 2011 will get a 034 Motorsports catch can soon.

if you made it 95k you did well. USP puts an all new injector O-ring kit in as well since they have to be removed.

Amazon has it for $325 and it has about 2k reviews, averaging 4.5 stars. Must be a legit little guy.

And I can get amazon's professional installation for a cool $200 more

edit: many of the recent review have been negative though, stating this model has been discontinued due to not being able to pick up blind spot radars and interference with K band, causing false alarms all the time. They have newer models that take care of those issues. I really don't know much about radar detectors since ive never looked into buying one before, so idk if this is an actual issue or not.

Pretty funny about the "professional installation", also recommend getting the factory hardwire kit (with the alert/mute button) and BlendMount. Have that combo in my car and it makes things so nice and tidy.

If you want a radar detector do some research at this site. Some of the members take this stuff very seriously. They do independent testing with radar guns they have purchased themselves. They set up real life scenarios and see how each detector performs. If you want ultimate range the uniden R3 is the top dog right now, however that range can come with false alerts. I personally chose to go with a valentine V1. Plenty of range plus it has front/side/rear detection and arrows to tell you where the signal is coming from. Pair it with your phone with an app and it's a powerhouse of a detector. My wife also runs a V1.

Damn. I didnt realize radar detectors cost so much now. I haven't owned one in a very long time.
I'm as cool as a cucumber in a bowl of hot sauce.

That forum is chock-full of fanboys(most of them older guys). We're talking about a hobby surrounding radar detectors.

A lot of the experiences are over the top and heavily biased. Truth is any good radar detector is capable of getting 1 mile plus alerts in the right condition. But all things considered there is a decent one that is good out of the box and is customizable in the area of band segmentation - that's what's important depending on your area of the country.

Escort Max series was a top brand over the years. However the community started jonesing on the whole customization thing. Escort gave them/marketed what they wanted and as with all processor powered electronics go, more processing more convoluted. That's exactly what the radar community wanted and suffice to say they've all turned to bashing the product since the what matters the most - radar and laser detection - has suffered due to all the heavy firmware. So if you like plugging in your Iphone and playing around with radar detection apps at the price of affected performance then give the Escort a try. They are still on the pricier side. Their Redline is killer on the highways, but like all rd's it does false and is on the heavier side. It also has reported glitches.

Valentine 1 is another leader and has been for YEARS and this is kinda their downside as their technology hasen't changed much. There really isn't any blame since radar/speed detection devices haven't either - they all use radio waves. Although, if you're a tweaker and love to go to the extreme with customization then this is the one for you. Personally I found it overkill. It has very good reception and it's hard to get a cold unit and the quality is there. Its false filtering could be better for the brand and doesn't have GPS redlight and speed camera database.

Uniden R3 has a lot of the hype surrounding it and really...it all depends on the terrain and build-up of where you live and drive. They've opened up the governors so-to-speak and it has Ka band range performance matching that of Escort's Redline. Some will say it's extremely quiet, but this is really going to depend on your area. This unit has band segmentation like the others so you can "try" to prevent false alerts as much as possible. But if you are in an area where the LEA uses K band you can be limited on the segmentation. It doesn't have the tech-gadget features that the Escort Max series does but it will perform better. This unit does have redlight camera and GPS however. The R3 is the unit I run and I live in a very built-up suburbia that has areas of long heavily wooded roads.

So if you live in Texas or any open flat land then all these detectors are going to get killer range. If you live in a densely populated area but also have long quiet roads then I recommend the R3. It by no means is the panacea of radar detection but it has band segmentation features and is great out of the box. In an area like mine it is a good top notch detector and nothing more. Don't get caught in the hype.

    few things to know:

All of the upper tier detectors get great Ka reception (the dominant frequency)

You may live in an area that uses K band as well. If you do then you are going to fight falses - could be a lot depending on the build-up of your area. K band is the ones people associate radar detectors going off near gas stations and your local CVS store...it's true. Even the best filter isn't gonna work against it. There's what's called BSM (blind side mgmt) our cars have it, but some cars emit frequencies that radar detectors can't filter out, like the honda CRV and Oldsmobile suv. This can get pretty annoying, but you have to live with it if again, you have K band used by your local police departments.

Instant on radar guns - usually in K band. If you have it in your local and you get hit with it speeding then you're toast. Your radar detector will turn into a ticket notifier.

Same goes for Laser - you detect it and your driving over the posted speed limit - your toast. There is anti-laser products and a good one I recommend is ALP(anti laswer priority). Their expensive and could be illegal in your state.

The three detectors I mentioned are all dash mounted. There are a few covert and inconspicuous units made by companies like Stinger, but again they pricey and usually get excellent detection.

If you want to see how the Uniden R3 REALLY works in a real-world environment here's a LINK. Some of the testimonials are off the wall on some of these forums like RD forum.

It all depends on your situation, what you're willing to pay and what you like and need. So do whatever the fuck you wanna do.

Pay attention to the conditions all the "very thorough testing" is done. They simply aren't real world.

Watch the videos I linked. All the tests have nothing to hold against the real thing . Again, any decent radar detector can get decent range in a static testing environment.

I live in a similar environment as the one shown in the videos. I don't have a cold unit and the R3 performs identically.

Proof is in the real-world, not some test track.

They don't use a test track. I'm talking about the guys that set up a radar gun on the side of a road just like a cop would be sitting. Then they put each detector in their car and drive towards and past the radar gun. They log where it starts alerting, strength etc. They use multiple of the same model. They even set them up in a curve to see which detects around a curve better/farther. Doesn't get much more "real world" than that.

You seem like you have something against that site. Were you a member that got banned for something?

Also the link you posted goes to another forum not a video.

Then how would YOU test multiple radar detectors against each other?

    Yes I'm a member never said I wasn't.

Buy it and run it in my own environment. The retailers all have return policies - usually in a month. Some may have a restocking fee but's it's worth it to try something out that costs 400 plus dollars.

    Simple as that.
