Trunk does not open with remote or switch

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have an a4 2004 that I can no longer open the trunk lid from either the trunk button on the door, or from the remote (note: remote does not work for anything else either). I can however open it with the key in the trunk lock. Whenever you open it with the key you can hear the actuator noise, (I assume that's normal?) However you cannot hear this noise when pressing the button on the door, or the remote.

After reading various diagnostic info I removed the actuator, and tested out of the car by connecting it to a 12 power source...it works fine.

My next thought was a broken wire/bad connection, however I doubt this since the actuator makes a noise when opening with the key. So at least that wire must be good.

My conclusion is that the computer is not telling the actuator to run...what could cause this? I can borrow Vagcom from a friend if it would help at all.

So you can open the trunk by putting the key in the slot and turning it? But pushing the button between the license plate lights doesn't work?

X2... mine does the same but I've been too lazy to look into it. At one point all 3 methods worked. Then the door button stopped working but remote and using the key directly worked. Now only the key in the trunk works.

My remote locks worked intermittent but don't work at all now. Key in the door and door lock buttons inside work, so that may just be a key fob issue,, but still doesn't explain the door button for the trunk lock not working.

same thing happened to me but when I installed a newer CCM to use the b7 key fob. turns out the CCM is the culprit so I replaced it with another one.

Now it works fine along with my b7 key fobs =)

Unfortunately, I can't open the trunk with the key blade since I installed an S4 trunk...don't know how to swap the key hole from my old trunk.

Doesn't bother me at all atm as my key fob/driver's door button opens the trunk.

If the key won't open, you should try open it from the inside; I think the locking mechanism may need some key lube.

Mine did that couple times during winter last year and never have problem since.

Yes that is correct...the only way of the many that should work is putting the key in the slot and turning it.

Alright, I had the same issue I think. You hear the actuator going off right? But the trunk doesn't open? If so, open your trunk with the key, and take off the cover and take a look inside. Most of the time, the cable developed some slack and doesn't have enough force to open the locking mechanism that holds the trunk closed. Mine was doing this, and I took my trunk cover off, added some WD-40 to the locking mechanism(it looked pretty rusty) and retightened some of the cables. I don't exactly remember what the inside looked like, but once you have the trunk apart, it should be pretty clear as to what your problem is.

This just happened to me too. My actuator just started gradually slowing down one day, and then it wouldn't open anymore. I was the idiot that completely forgot about being to manually open the trunk up with they key from the outside. I was climbing into my trunk to open it for a day or two until someone pointed that out on here lol.

I know for sure my issue was the actuator. (Still haven't gotten around to changing it though). If you try to open your trunk up via the little handle under your rear Audi rings and it doesn't open, are you able to lock your car and arm it right afterwards without manually opening the trunk and closing it?

I see that you're in NY too.. I've been told that really hot days cause the actuator to go, and we definitely have had a pretty excruciating summer.. Soon as the crazy heat came around was when mine stopped working.

I had this issue and looked into it last night. Further investigation found that its wire related issue.

    Investigation:
Actuator works when trunk door is open, doesn't work when trunk door was closed.

I found that when I pinched this bundle of joy (wires) the actuators doesn't make any sound (no 12v is coming out of the output).

    Repair:
What do you guys think is the best way to repair this wire issue? Have you guys encountered this before?

I wouldnt replace it. That seems wasteful. I would simply open it up and find the cut or break in the wire. Then fix it, put it in a harness and route it out of harms way. A harness costs a lot more than just some solder and tape.

Not sure I would recommend this. I went this route when my door harness started acting up. Had all the wires resoldered and sealed up. The issue came back after a few weeks. I'm not sure how much work it is to pull the harness, or the cost, but swapping it out would be most long lasting solution.
    Can't spell trouble without turbo.

    Update:
Found this bundle of joy; wires were so brittle that it breaks when stripped. "Trunk does not open with remote or switch" issue resolved after replacing broken wires.
