I'm getting my motor mounts replaced either this week or next and will be going to the track to get a baseline quarter mile time before I do my engine build. My rods and pistons are at RAI waiting to be installed. Might go larger turbo as well but need to see whatbi can don with my current setup first

No clue. But Arin posted a new one in the other discussion I linked. I'm still leaning towards RAI right now, but waiting on their final results.

I've been doing the same reading/thinking. Would like to know what parts to build...seems like only options right now are the IE rods and maybe their pistons?

Which I assume are not necessary unless you're going over 350 AWHP, correct? And once you get up to 400, you also have to worry about the Tranny too? Personally, I'm looking for a good boost without any other changes in the engine and long term reliaiblity. That's why APR is still in the game for me, but I'm willing to see what RAI is doing because of what DD is saying and RAI is working on.

I'd love to see an RAI update soon.

Supposedly, most of the weaknesses in the B7 motor was addressed and changed in the B8 motor. But, not 100% verified until someone tears it open and checks. Also, going for big power (400+) means pushing the limit and things will still potentially break, even if you upgrade the rods/pistons considering you'd be venturing through unchartered territory. But, that will open lots of doors and increase our base pool of knowledge considerably.

If you want to build your motor and go with a GTX kit, be prepared to spend at least 15 to 20k. this is a good thread to read:
    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...ig-Turbo-Build

Arjun spent alotttttttttt of money to get his motor built by RAI and test the new gtx28 .86 turbo (GREAT turbo, btw). in the process, made 415 whp on a mustang dyno with a crazy torque curve. but, discovered a new weakness in the motor and consequently blew it up a week later. he got rebuilt and is now using a gtx28 .64 turbo, spools 500 rpm sooner and makes almost the same peak power.

the new gtx series turbos are amazing. peak power is like a gt30 but spools the same as a k03

i could spend 20k now and build my motor and go big turbo for 400 whp, or i could trade in for a faster stock car and not worry about reliability issues. or i could be responsible, be happy with the k04, and get a house. aghhh, troublesome, haha.

Same here!!! not 20k, but still... with all the mods, I will be close to an S4 MSRP and part with the warranty, and risk the reliability. decisions, decisions...

Thanks Tofu. I hear you completely. For me, the Stage II is just not enough, but the question is, how much do I really need. My goal is around 325-350 AWHP and 350-400 AWTQ, with high reliability and minimal engine changes if possible. It seems like the new V2 APR K04 map might get us there, and RAI certainly will. But the question is on RAI with cost and long term reliaiblity.

the efficiency range of the k04 is pretty bad actually. it creates too much heat and loses efficiency b/c it's so small. that's why a FMIC is absolutely needed if you want to push it for 'higher' power. the k04 will max out at around 315 whp (my estimate). this won't be possible with the off the shelf APR flash, though. you'll most definitely need to run eurodyne maestro and do a custom tune and spray alchy. APR keeps things very safe so that reliability will not be an issue. for most of us, reliability is key

Arjun's car did not blow up because of how much power he was making. His camshaft variator failed while he was cruising at 65 in 6th gear. We have dealt with many variator issues, 90% of which are bone stock to mildly modified.

Audi recognized the frequent failure of the part, and released a new revision which supposedly never fails.

I know this is random, but for RAIs red label kit do we have an idea if we can use the apr/carbonio intake or aftermarket intercoolers with it? Just curious as I've been upgrading piece by piece ...

Speculation, but pretty sure can keep IC, but likely not the intake (stock or APR). The RL kit they just finished for the 1.8T was under $4k for everything, intake, DP, tune, manifold, lines, pipes, etc. per the facebook page. Of course, ours could be different than the B6/7...as mentioned, just speculation.

Dan mentioned before that the intake would be new and supplied with the Red Label kit. You could not reuse your current one, whatever it may be.

That's not an upgrade. That's the current turbo you have. "Stage 2" just means that you have an intake and downpipe/exhaust for better flow and have it tuned (APR, GIAC, etc) to accomodate these changes.

    Just ran into this...

    http://www.gmpperformance.com/index....ID=202223&VS=1

I thought that Stasis was going to release something a while ago but then backed out. Looks like they went through with the turbo upgrade?? Any input from a Stasis rep? Looks a bit pricey (like most Stasis stuff) but the warranty thing is cool.

I'm still going to hold out to see what RAI can make happen. It would be badass if 034 or somebody from the west coast could come up with a nice BT kit though...

I just plugged in 2009 (B8) A4 and this popped up on the list of available engine/turbo performance options. Doesn't say anything about B7 and clearly shows "2009 A4" as the vehicle up top for me... It shows the APR K04 kit as well...

Doesn't matter either way to me, just thought it was another option out there that I had not seen advertised anywhere. If it is in fact for the B7 then that could be why...but GMP needs to get their shit straight it that's the case.

Any updates RAI? My money is leaning toward the APR K04 now for reliability and a very solid map in the V2 update.

Two things might be a deal breaker for me with the RAI kit:

1). Cost- if the kit with install is gonna be over $4000, then I would rather go K04 (on sale of course)
2). If it needs a custom HFC, then I won't be able to pass emissions here in CA because I can't switch the stock cat back in for testing.

Great points on both and both impact me as well. I assume next week APR will annouce a sweet sale and my local shop already offers free installs. I am leaning strong this way if the price is right and I already have approval from my personal finance restrictor (wife) to do so as well if the price is good.

To be fair though, the two kits are offering different capabilities. APR's kit will net you what looks like 313chp with their V2, while the GTX will net you at least 325awhp. That's quite a difference.

I also like the fact that you can tune more with the GTX and Maestro in the future. The K04 seems pretty limited. Hearing good things from RAI and waiting on their announcement.
