Coolant Remaining After Draining

I want to add some coolant but I'm not certain what kind is in it. I had the same issue with my B6. I couldn't put G12 or G13 in because the previous owner threw some green in there. So I had to drain and fill repeatedly with distilled water while running the heat on high until what came out was clear enough for me.

I'd like to do the same with this car. Drain and fill with distilled until it's clear, then add the necessary amounts of coolant to the reservoir to reach a 50/50 dilution.

The problem is I'm not sure how much coolant will remain in the system after it's been drained. I suppose I could find the capacity and subtract whatever I drain out but then I have to measure the dirty drained coolant, which sounds like a pain.

Does anybody know approximately how much coolant will remain in the block when I drain from the lower valve?

can you not hook up some kind of flush kit like we used to in the old days and turn the hose on till is flushed ?? then just add a little stonger than 50/50 mix to offset any water left in the system ?

Do this and then add 1/2 of the listed coolant capacity with straight G12/G13. Top off with distilled water and you will have a perfect 50/50 mix.
