    Valentine V1 Hardwire

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guys. Did a search but couldn't really understand most of the results. Looking to hardwire my V1. I want it placed near the rear view mirror to the right. Is it easier connecting it to something by the mirror or running a wire to the fuse box? If so please explain. Thanks!

I have mine located to the right of my rear view mirror. I think it would be easier to run it to the dome light wires however I could not find any info at the time to hook up the "Telephone" wire. So I ran the wire across the headliner and then down the A pillar and to the fuse box. I bought a (http://www.autozone.com/autozone/acc...ier=32414_0_0_) and plugged into an existing fuse that only turned on when the car was on. I ran the black line to a bolt near the pedals. (ground) Took about 30 mins to do and didn't have to remove anything really. I just used a "Bezel Tool" to stuff the line into the headliner and pillar being mindful of the airbag. Had it in for about a year and had no problems.

I ran the cord through the headliner and down the A-pillar to the fuse box using the Add-a-Circuit Fuse Tap mentioned above... Took me <30 minutes and there is no guessing which wires to tap into. Easy job.

Just to make this even easier, which fuse should I tap? Anyone willing to post a pic of their fuse box?

Try this method. No running wires down to the fuse and you can pick up a kit on ebay for less than $20.

I've always done the long run to the fuse box on my Audis, but my current car uses this...
    http://www.safe-n-sound1.com/Valentine%20DC%20HM.html
I'm currently debating what to do with my new A4.

The other problem is I can't find a mirror mount that works with the A4.
I'm currently using a Blend Mount and it's awesome.
    http://www.blendmount.com
But they don't make one for the A4.

My suction cup mount is from 2002 and had finally worn out. Looks like I'm going to have to get another one unless someone knows of a mirror mount that works.

i simply use the visor clip to mount the v1 on the drive side. never found a mirror mount that would fit properly and didn't want a suction cup fail.

i mount the concealed display next to the mmi display which provides good line of sight as well as a bit of protection from bright sunlight because it sits underneath the dash overhang. wires were tucked behind the dash trim for a clean, uncluttered look.

I used this method, very easy mod. I had done the a pillar to the fuse box on my last two A4s, this was easier.

With that method, does it mean that the v1 is always on even when the car is off?

No, there is a switched 12v up there so the V1 will turn on and off with the car. But now that you mention it, it might be a different wire than the one he used in the thread. Sorry I had forgotten that, did it a while ago. I remeber finding the right wire by searching the forum, I think it was black with a white stripe but I'd verify that. I also didn't drill a hole for the ground, just used a screw that was up there. Just test it before you put everything back together.

Edit: The posts from fasttoys further down the thread I posted describes the right wire to use. I also used the Hex nut with washer for a ground and it's been working fine for almost 2yrs.

No, you still need the main unit mounted in the front window with clear line of sight through the back window as well.
The remote display turns off all lights on the main unit which makes it invisible to cars behind you, and possibly gives you easier access to the buttons depending on where you mount it.

Another thing... during my recent research i've read that on the V1, you need to disable K band or at least disable POP on K band if you have side assist because it causes the V1 to give constant false alarms.

Yeah I left the V1 for the Passport that learns false locations by GPS. I think the V1 and the 9500ix Passport are the best ones out there. I just prefer my PP over my old V1 because it got to the point I was ignoring it because of false alarms. But man i'm glad I have one because these Indiana troopers on I-65 like to be sneaky!

I had through about this as a possible troubleshoot/work around but didnt have extra fuses at home to try it so never did. Info on why you have two fuses is appreciated.

Well if you take out a fuse that is suppose to be in there, then that function of the car will not work. Therefore you need this ( http://www.autozone.com/autozone/acc...47009&cmpid=cj ) so you can stick the fuse for the parking break in and then the fuse for the V1. That make sense?

So I put the original fuse that I took out back into the fuse tap. I didnt add the 2nd fuse and that may be why it hasnt worked for me. I'll have to give this a shot this weekend to see what happens. Hoping it works cuz I'm getting sick of the coiled wire hanging down from the mirror mount.

Thanks for the pics and info. I started a similar thread a few months back and no one came back with any useful info.

Just to make sure you understand, you put the fuse tap (Purchased from any Autoparts store) into the the where the original fuse should go, then put the original fuse into the fuse tap along with the second fuse that should come with your purchase. That will work, if not use my location. Should be good to go after that. Simple and organized!

Yeah I did not use a second fuse. I pulled a 5amp fuse out. Put the fuse tap in and put the 5 amp fuse that I took out into the fuse tap. No additional fuse. I'll try the additional fuse this weekend and see if it works.
