I just finished this modification on my 2005 Avant. I've done a lot of work on my B6 but this little project ranks up there as one of the most satisfying of modifications. Only after I had done several long road trips did I realize just how useful functional cup holders can be while traveling. (the OEM folding cupholders are NOT functional)

I picked up virtually all of my parts from eBay sellers with a couple of trim pieces from ECS. My gratitude to CrazyCal for writing this up and taking the time to post pictures of the process. The tips and tricks mentioned by everyone in this thread proved useful to me as I converted my console. I reused my B6 handbrake and the extra length B6 handle did play a role in my reassembly. I also found that trimming the plastic wiring carrier underneath was a necessity my case.

My gratitude to all who contributed.
