    My custom pcv fix

Since I can't afford my catch can yet I decided to run this temporary setup.

    Thoughts/opinions?

    034 valve cover plate
    eBay 90 degree bend -10an
    Jeggs cap -10an
    K&N ru-3230 air filter

    Cost me around $100

This is better for the 07-08 models, given that the early B7s can run a standard fix (BSH) but the later models have a problem with pressure build up. Pressure = heat, and heat equals burning of the oil = tons of smoke out the tail pipe.

Cool fix but why do the 07-08 models have more pressure build up?

Because of the check valve in the rear breather pipe. If you dig the check valve out of the rear pipe on a newer car you could run a block off on a newer car

Not really sure to be honest, I know the 07-08 came with a different Pcv valve than the rest, so it's safe to assume the positive crankcase ventilation system was altered as well. I had 2 -10an caps and plumed smoke, and always wondered why earlier B7s got away with a block off plate? Like wtf where does the crankcase pressure go? But running this setup I have no problems and +1-2 psi coming off what I think was a failing PCV valve.

I would not recommend this setup for a permanent fix as it seems to be jizzing oil all over the breather hose etc. Maybe this is Bc I over-oiled the filter but I have to whole heartedly recommend a catch can setup for 2007+ B7 A4s, there is no proper substitute

    Creative... But pointless?

You blew $100 (1/3 price of a decent catch can) for a PCV fix, of which is covered by AoA recall and free until you have the proper amount for a proper catch can. But I digress and commend you for doing something that hasn't been done. I assume you will only create a mess in your bay as your crankcase is essentially venting to atmosphere with nothing to catch the oil/water vapor blowby....

I completely agree that this mod is not an acceptable solution (I mean we're driving audis, not subarus after all)

But this mod does address the "billowing smoke issue of later B7s" so it is useful in a sense, I thank you for your educated response.. I plan on upgrading to a 42dd catch can (I had an 034 catch can but the 034 plate has 5/8 barbs which logically does not seem compatible to the 1" 034 catch can barbs). It does shoot oil but I felt a steady increase in performance from an OEM updated pcv that was installed (without my knowledge) from a Cali dealer 30k miles ago

Is a catch can wont be the same as a block-off plate? Unless you have a filter on the can to vent to the atmosphere, a catch-can is a closed circuit, and pressure should be the same internally?

This is a very interesting post, I have a bsh catch can setup on my 06 and the same "tons of smoke out of tail pipe" problem. If what Mister W suggested is true what would be most ideal remedy? Obviously don't want to vent it out to the atmosphere.

You should get a stock PCV and sell me your BSH catch can

I know this may have been covered before, but would running another catch can for the other side of crankcase (the tube from rocker cover to turbo) solve the problem? I remember reading somewhere that's the side where most oil goes. There is hardly any oil in my current catch can.
