Adaptive Headlights / AFS...

I am having difficulty figuring out if the headlights I have are Adaptive/AFS or not... The VIN indicates:

8EH = Bi-functional headlight with gas discharge lamp, for driving on the right(US design)
8Q3 = Automatic headlight-range adjustment dynamic (self-adjusting while driving)

These are the only two option codes related to headlights.

Anyone here with Adaptive/AFS able confirm these are indeed the codes for that headlight?

If not I will check through VagCom when I get back.

It sounds like 8Q3 is just talking about auto-leveling, not AFS.

In the US, I'm fairly certain only 2012 Prestige cars received AFS.

EDIT.....I just checked and it came in the "Technology package" that was only available with Premium models.

My 2009 car had Bi-Xenons and when you turned them on (in the dark) you could see the light go up and down to check operation.

On my 2010 car with Bi-Xenon Adaptive on the start up they go are down and then very clearly in to the centre then out to the edges.

Hopefully that will help you work out what you've got. However driving at night on a bendy road also makes it easy.

I just had a loaner 2012 Prestige avant and it didn't have AFS. My 2012 Tiguan has AFS and it does similar to what scottyuk just described. You can also take your headlight out (5min) and you should have a third module at the very bottom.

My '07 Passat 3.6 4Motion had AFS. They were doing up, down,left and right at startup.

I finally got a clear answer... if your build sheet states 8Q3 they are not Adaptive/AFS headlights. You need an 8Q5 stamp and that would mean you have the real deal.

unfortunately this is not possible unless you are driving 10mph+ or you have showroom effect enabled. if you do then it will allow you to move the wheel and lights together when standing still.

it really is a pointless feature unless it is a demo vehicle... i rarely ever sit in my car with the engine off and the lights on turning the steering wheel.

It might help when pulling out of your driveway, if you don't build up enough speed to trigger it. It's not a feature you'll find useful on North American roads, unless you live in the mountains. I hardly ever notice it working.

i notice it since i have had it on almost every car i have owned in the past few years but it does help when we go into the country... incredible difference between the two.

The AFS function IS the cornering/bending feature that works for left and right, therefore your retrofit is not working correctly.
Besides the AFS-1 headlights, what else did you change as part of the retrofit process?

I can answer my own question now.

From my options codes list from the pic above, I have option code 8Q5.
"8Q5 = Headlight-range adjustment, automatic / dynamic with dynamic bending light (AFS 1)"

Take your options codes list and input those codes into this decoder.

Now you're using the term AFS. To my knowledge, this is not the same as the static turning lights.
AFS is the left/right swivel feature of the D3S projector. Your query is about the stand alone H7 bulb that is located beside the projector unit and used to supplement the turning process, correct?

This is why I asked if you posted a similar query on the A5 owners group in facebook. The reason I asked is because this exact same question was asked within the last week.
