    Fun stuff coming this week...
ordered four of these New tires
My car is lowered and is getting camber wear on the inside. think i'll get adjustable control arms in the future, but i have raised my suspenion a bit and plan to raise it more in the front especially.

Should have a different set of front s4 seats coming this weekend for $250 in excellent shape. it should be in this thread i picked up front and rear s4 seats for $50. they were in rough shape. i started to sand them down and get the two layers of old dye off them. started to get nice and smooth, and soft. but i fiured i'd test out the motors. only 1 out of 6 motors i tested worked, so i am scrapping that idea and buying some known good ones. i'll eventually repair the rear seat and through that in there too.

i'm also planning on fixing up my exhuast which is an embarrasment currently. might throw another glasspack in there to quiet it down more. it already has a glass pack and a muffler, and i dont mind glasspakcs because they are a straight through design. it doesnt sound good, but it doesnt bother me.

finally, i will be attending a local tuner drag race event the weekend of the 21st. it draws about 5000 people at my local drag way, which also holds NHRA Nationals, so its a serious strip. I dont plan on racing competively, I just want to see if i can get the hang of it and hopefully break into the 12's if i can get my foot work down.

Expect pics of interior and hopefully a video of a drag pass or two to come

s4 seats are a big check. they are nice, but don't go as low as the stock seats at all. they are comfortable though. definately plug and play for me. all i had to do was just plug the wires in. i still opted to weld nuts into the floor

well i ended up getting to the drag track this weekend. all in all, the car ran great. i was very pleased with its top end performance, although not so much with the lower end. the biggest problem i had with getting a fast time was the driver. it was my first time drag racing, so its a reasonable excuse. it seemed i would eithr have a great start and a shitty run, or a shitty start and great run. i couldnt seem to combine the two. i cerainly had a blast doing it and will most likely return to the drag strip eventually. howver, i think i wouldve had more fun on the road course. besides the novice driver issue, my car could certainly be faster down low. i found it odd that plenty of other cars had low 14's to mid 13's and were running less than 100 mph. even on my shitty runs, i had no issue getting to 100 mph, although not much faster. my .86 hotside is most likely the cause of this, but i like the fact that the car has so much top end. i am thinking maybe an e85 tune would help drastically if i plan on dragging again. either way, heres my slip. it was against a pretty mean sound c6 vette, but i was surprised at his time. i should be able to get some video loaded within a couple days

On that run did you bog the car? Because even knocking .6 off your 60 ft is worth about 1.5 seconds on the ET.

How are you launching the car?

That run I didn't bog. Another run I had a .149 reaction but I bogged. I don't really launch. More like rev to 4k and slip the clutch till the engine regains itself

I am pretty sure you need to rev to 5k at least and just drop to the clutch to launch these cars properly. Just going by other posts.

I'll have to look into some tricks for getting off the line faster, but you guys need to keep in mind im only running an s4 clutch.

Then the last thing you want to be doing is slip it like crazy to launch it, slipping it makes things worse since your putting more wear on the clutch and heating it up. You want the tires to spin not the clutch, so running high tire pressure will reduce traction.

Don't worry about reaction time since it is not factored into your ET, plus .149 is actually really slow and at that point your already looking at the green light. Just look at my 11.03 run from Saturday, my reaction time was nearly 4 seconds because the guy I was racing against asked for a 2-5 second head to make things interesting.

    It's time

Mike, I wonder if a 2 step like an n2mb's wotbox would help with consistency?

I know it does give the manifold and turbo and hard time if you're on the 2 step for too long.

It would if your trying to get a consistent reaction time, not really for 60 ft since the track surface condition is always changing. Either way you still have to get the rpm's high enough to launch and on these cars it is pretty much balls out or the car is just going to be slow off the line. A 2 step is better suited for a FWD car that is trying to keep from launching too hard and getting way too much wheel spin, on a awd car you want wheel spin because you can control that with the throttle. The WOTbox doesn't really produce much boost, so even at that point you would still need to set it at a high rpm. When doing a normal launch having the rpm rising quickly when you engage the clutch helps to over come that high driveline resistance of traction of all 4 tires.

For someone just getting into drag racing I would suggest just getting used to launching the car hard.

Yeah the end of 1st gear comes in a hurry on a good launch, pretty much have to shift by the time the car has full traction.

so you think i should mess around with 2 step in maestro? im sure it cant be very good for the car, but i would only run it during racing times. i suppose i could try it out and see how the clutch and car reacts

If you find it hard to go WOT during a normal launch you are going to hate it even more having to hold the throttle for a few seconds while not even releasing the clutch.

I use the two step feature in maestro and find it easy to use. I had it set to 4700 it built like 18psi if I remember correctly. Ride that clutch out and would all four easily

At the track you would have to raise that up a good amount since the track will have glue on the surface causing the traction to be way higher. The Maestro tune makes more boost because it can retard the timing while cutting timing, making it more of a anti-lag setup while the WOTbox just cuts spark from a few cylinders at a time which is why it doesn't make any real boost.

Down side to anti-lag is really high EGT's which tends to melt exhaust wheels.

Well is there a way I can get a rev limiter to launch without the extra gas? What I mean is 2 step without the all the extra fuel?

Depends on how the Maestro setups up the launch control. If you can set how much timing retard there is you can reduce how much boost is made while sitting on the launch rev limiter. Problem is that none to very little boost is not going to help get a 3000+ pound awd car out of the hole very well.

with maestro all you can do is set rpm. unfortunetly there is is no fuel and timing maps for the 2 step feature.

So the rest of the launch control settings are already preset? Have you logged it to see what it is doing when you are using the launch control? When I used my anti-lag on my IIC it was set to retard the timing 40 degs allowing me to make full boost but that was back when I was just running the boost around 25psi.

because this is my daily driver, i would like to avoid anti-lag. but it certainly be cool to have the revs set to 5 or 6k on launch.

Fuck launch control. It is your DD man! You will definitely add a ton of un-needed stress to many components.

Launching these cars just takes practice. It is very simple since all you have to do is blip the throttle a few times taking the rpm up to about 5k and letting it drop back down. Then when you are ready to launch you just go WOT at the bottom swing of the tach and let the clutch out when you reach your target launch RPM. Just worry about watching the tach to get it down, after a while you will just know what rpm your car is at just by sound alone.

sounds like i'll need to get some practice then if i plan on dragging again. i know the car is capable of much better times than what i had. like flynn said, this is my dd so i try not to be hard on it. maybe next time the road course would be better suited for my car. im not sure how it wold do on autox because my spool is so late.

i do admit running anti lag would be cool as fuck though. i had a good time watching the wrx's running anti lag on the drag strip.

I figured I'd bump my thread for the hell of it. The car is running pretty good. A leak here and there but overall I cant complain. Spool is still really slow, but I haven't tried to do anything about it. The pull beyond 5 grand is still pretty cool.

As of now, I plan to keep the car mostly the way it is until I get done with this round of school (another 3 years) and hopefully turn it into a full out track car. We will see about that, but I can't complain about how it has been running. I bought a set of s4 wheels with general altimax Arctic's from flynnr and will post a pic when I put them on, which may be another month or so. Last year, I turned down my boost to wastegate pressure for winter mode and turned it back up to 25psi in the same day.

I had to try out the video function on my new phone. The car is running pretty well still. I really want to try out s smaller hotside. I think the car would be much more enjoyable to drive, but it certainly doesnt run out of breathe at all. Goes strong till I shift

Well, this thing is going to get some maintenance soon. I have one final left on Monday, then I am heading back to my hometown for a month, then going to Europe for 6 weeks to take some school courses, one of which is being taught by the C.J. of SCOTUS. During the time I will be back at home I will be replacing-

    Rear Main Seal
    Steering Rack
    Noisy bearings in accessory area
    Some broken exhaust studs

Ever since I put this motor in I have been having some decent oil leaks. The clutch hasn't slipped, but I can see oil inside the bell housing. If anyone wants to point me in the direction of the proper way to use the plastic applicator thing that come with the main seal that would be great.

A place between here and there

Leave the applicator in place. It is used as a guide and to make sure the flaps don't fold when placing it in. As you slide the seal over the crank, the applicator will slide out. Not much to it really.

I suspect my rear seal is leaking to. But could just be residual from when I changed my oil (oil filter mess). Really hoping things are still ok back there. Where are you from originally? Minnesota still?

I am originally from Sauk Rapids Minnesota, and moved down to St. Paul to go to law school last August, about an hour south of Sauk Rapids. I have a month off between my last final and my trip, so I will be working at the diesel shop for extra money. Luckily, I will get to use their car lift when taking out my engine. And Then I get to clean up my oily mess of an engine bay.

I've been having some decent oil leaking as well. I'll check the bell housing when I get the new rack in and bay cleaned up to see if I can narrow down where my oil leak is coming from
