Please take time when replacing fuel filter , wear protecting clothing that you don't mind to destroy
and wear protecting glasses as fuel will spill and it might shower you.
Do it in well ventilated area. Do not smoke near the car while doing the work .
Recommended replacement every 60000 miles or 100000 km.
What is needed ?
- Fuel Filter part# 441 201 511 c is for AWD V6 2.8 engine (check with dealer for 2.7t and 4.2, 3.0 if they use the same part# )
- sealing o rings , usually they come with filter but do get them if they don't 4 pieces required
- Tools T 40 hex or 10 mm key
- 17, 19, 22 mm wrenches
- Plenty of paper towel
- Empty container to catch spilling fuel

The fuel filter is located under the passenger side between front of the rear wheel and rear door
if you lean and look under the car and you can't miss it.

It is very easy to access it.
If you have access to lift or ramps or even using floor jack will be enough clearance to work
I used ramps.

As you can see my filter was leaking the o-rings gave-up and started to leak.
That is why important to replaced the o-rings.
I used plastic container to catch spilling fuel. Using wrenches
I started from the bolt facing front as this will relase the pressure from the other side that leads
to the engine. Loose the bolt and fuel will start spilling, it will take couple minutes to
release completely the pressure and fuel,

Then do the other bolt , remove the bolts from both sides, there is still fuel left in filter .

remove the bolt either T40 hex or 10 mm bolt is used that holds the fuel filter in place , I have damaged mine when I did couple years ago
first replacement the bolt was rusted.
Once you remove the bolt and pull the strap down the fuel filter can be removed; again be carefull
there is still fuel left inside, release it to your container.


prepare your new filter for installation , clean the bolts from any visible rust or dirt remove the
old seals, and install new one ,
Pay attention to the fuel filter it will have arrow mark showing the flow of the fuel in and out
might be marked on the ends. The bolt that facing engine is fuel in from tank and the bolt that is
facing back is out to engine, so you need to install new filter to match the flow of the fuel.
Install new filter strap it, and install the bolt and remaining o ring . The o-ring has to be on
both sides of the fuel line flange.

Tight the bolts to 17 ft-lbs
Once everything is done, now you can check for leaks. to prime your pump , start the ignition don't
turn the engine, wait 10-20 seconds, so the fuel can start flowing through filter, turn off, and
turn on your engine, the car might not start the first time, try it again and engine will eventually
start.Go back to fuel filter and check for any leaks , if you notice the bolts start to swell or getting wet when
car is running that means it is leaking. Wipe the bolts with paper towel turn engine off re tight
the bolt don't do it too much you might damage the fuel filter, wipe the bolts and observe when you
notice is bone dry , you have no more leaks, you are done. Enjoy.
