    How the Ins. Clusters work....

.... meaning how much, if anything, information resides on the cluster? I have a cluster with Almost EVERY pixel dead. If i buy a spare, can it be swapped in, or will the displayed mileage be that of the car it was stripped from?

I'm tending to believe that the mileage must be stored not on the cluster, because after doing a 6spd conv.I didn't need to do anything with the cluster to make the display say "Depress clutch pedal to start engine" instead of "Press foot on brake and select gear" or however it goes. Hence leading me to think the mileage will be displayed correctly on the new cluster.

    OR am i wrong

Mileage is stored on the cluster. There are tools to change your mileage though...

    Gah alright.

Can the mileage just be adjusted with vagcom, or other ways..... because then its really no problem. Is it just plug and play with the two clusters?

you can swap LCD between clusters, finding cluster with good lcd will be a challenge , just get new lcd plenty on ebay and do installation yourself if you handy and have tools to do it.
any cluster that have more then 60 miles you can't change with vagcom,

Different software than vagcom. As far as it being plug and play, it depends on what year your car is and what year your new cluster is.

Yeah the differences with immos, clock and harnesses on the back.

I've heard of swapping the LCD in but it looks difficult to solder... You have a DIY/tips on doing it ? I'm able to do everything but I may need to get help with the soldering

don't use modulemaster, they use shitty chinese screens.

Look in B5 S4 forums. Search for LCD repairs. They list a name of dude that does it for around $100 said and done and uses quality LCDs.

pretty much every company uses chinese LCD, anything with yellow ribbon or with green / blue tapped on the top of the ribbon is chinease unit, as long you have 5-10 year warranty on it, you are safe

Contact Tom " Mpower " is his username here. His service is unbeatable and I'm pretty sure he'll match any price you can find, and he has a few options: OEM LCD screen, Good aftermarket, cheap Aftermarket. I had him swap the screen in our 99' with the cheap aftermarket screen- and it is visibly the same as OEM.
