Sorry just saw this reply. Yeah I see lots of folks are moving to him. Will check it out next spring.


On a separate note, anybody have any suggestions on how to improve brake feel on the a6 Avant? I think I'm due for a brake fluid flush but I'm thinking of upgrading parts. If I recall there are some SS brake lines for same year q5 as a direct swap?

I'll have to dig up that thread where people did 4pot upgrade.

How do you like it, and how cumbersome is it to control it over MMI

Installed a 8.8" 4x4ca.com android replacement for the OEM 3MMI High-tier screen. Happy with the upgrade, though there are some minor kinks that I hope I can resolve over the phone with them. For example,
1) While one can select F vs. C for temp, the display continues to show temp in C, just the letter changes.
2) The wiring harness interfaces with the AC control group via a plug insert set but the 8.8" controller cannot adjust any AC settings. Weird!
3) The wiring harness also has all sorts of connections / wires for all sorts of add-ons (3D camera setup, 2G MMI etc.) that I didn't select, have no interest for, which take up room, etc.
4) While the instructions up to the MMI plug removal were decent, they do not explain at all how to do all that. So the last stage can be a bit confusing.
5) The system doesn't switch to the car UI for phone calls automatically, so if you do hands-free dialing the Audi 3MM way, you better remember the order of numbers associated each phone book entry - i.e. 1 for mobile, 2 for home, etc.

Overall, the instructions were decent but on a DIY basis, the process takes a long time and the instructions by product (i.e. in-dash 8.8" vs. their more recent external-screen replacements) have improvement potential. I counsel having a magnetic metric socket set handy as some of the dash screws are likely to go kaplink into the neverland due to their location. Ditto a impact driver to get the glove box back in to place. Adding carplay is a big improvement, the screen looks lightyears better, and the navigation system will not ever need another update.
