Looks awesome. What’s the parts number or a link to where you got the Awe intake hose I can’t seem to find it?! And do you have more pictures?

The failure of the HPFP on my (early) 06, 3.2l set into motion a long list of pm stuff. Today I removed the oil filter housing to replace the badly leaking seal. Carbon cleaning next. IMG_0264.jpg

New 3.0T Avant owner. So far I've installed a dash cam, removed the plate holder from the front grill, replaced a reverse light bulb and installed a whole bunch of winter road grime

A few other minor things to address then eventually some upgrades.

Which dashcam? Some asshat in a b8/8.5 s4 nearly clipped me in tahoe the other day and would like to be able to have video evidence should a similar occurrence happen again

VAVA 1080P. Fits nicely behind the mirror and interfaces nicely with mobile app. I’ve also used DDPai M6+ for several years on previous vehicles.

    2006 3.2 with 160,000 miles.

The walnut blaster made no impression in that mess whatsoever. The only thing it was good for was final polish. I have a great compressor and bought the adapter from Ford Prefect.

I did one side at a time. I rotated the motor until the valves were closed, filled the holes with chemical (CRC green label seemed to work the best) and let the soak for 30 minutes. Then I sucked out the fluid with a shop vac, and set to work, chipping and scraping with dental picks. Only when it was 90% removed, did the blaster start to make an impression.

Not counting removal and install of the lower IMs, it probably took 8-10 hours. I like to think that I’m a fairly competent shade tree, but this was a huge job. I combined it with replacing the seal on the oil filter housing. Today I move onto the high pressure fuel pump, then down the front of the motor ( thermostat, water pump, coolant crossover and hoses)

Dang JohnnyB. That looks like a new engine dude. Where is VA are you located? I'm in Fredericksburg. You are doing all of the stuff that I want/need to do to my 2006 A6 3.2 with 127K miles. I also need to do the timing chain tensioners as well. Let's team up and knock all of it out together (yours and mine).

I will have to decline the invite my friend, this has been the project from hell.

If your car is a daily driver, consider having a shop do it. If you can’t afford it, or have plenty if time, consider breaking it into 2 or 3 jobs. 1) Tensioners 2) oil seal, carbon clean t-stat 3) crossover, water pump, hoses. Something like that.

Happy to help via private message or phone call.

Just dropped the A6 off at the mechanic.... going to let him take care of the water pump (housing leak), the thermostat (also housing leak), and that's going to do it for now. Looks like I have the Valve cover gaskets to do, the timing chain guide is a "probably-soon" repair but we'll see if the head gasket is blown first.

What did you do to your C6 today?

    Replaced HPFP.

Put the lock carrier in service position. I made a set of slide bolts that worked very well. Total cost was $12 at Lowes.

Removed the coolant cross over pipe ( didn’t break anything! )

Realized I didn’t order all of the hoses i need so I’ll probably bite the bullet and buy the last 2 at the stealer.

    Water pump and t-stat next.

    Recent work/which springs to run?!

Not today but in the last month I've taken her into APR for a Stage 1 tune, deleted the rear mufflers & added 4" tips...currently debating which lowering springs to run, I'm pretty much down to H&R or Vogtland, opinions??

Put the top back together (fuel lines, IM, electrical) and drained coolant. Refilled with distilled water and started engine. (Yay!)

I ran it for 5 minutes and checked for leaks. Changed oil and drained/refilled water. Ran until up to temp. No leaks. Drained, refilled with water and brought back to temp. Drained for the last time.

I’ll fill with G13 tomorrow and put the front back on. I will also replace the drls while the headlights are out of the car. They are a BEAR to change in the car.

    The end is in sight.

That is such a cool project. Good job and thanks for sharing.

To tell about my C6, it's been sitting on stands for months. Had an issue with the shifter, mechanical screwed me over, I took the car back and started dismantling. Now, I need to drop the axle, reinstall the shifter, and put ALL the pieces back together. I've been lazy due to weather, but it's getting sunny in LA now. I should be back in the A6 in couple weeks or so. I'm in an A8L for the time being.

I did my crossover pipe, thermostat, and water pump but still have a coolant leak somewhere. Hate to tear everything back open but may need to. My repair list is totally getting in the way of my mod list.

A fun one that I chased down during the same work you are doing, was the supercharger coolant purge plugs. They were just ever so worn that what looked like a seal, was a seeping mess. It was also very hard to tell where it came from as it trickled into the SC valley, filling up all the little nooks and crannies, then spilling out the front! It made it look like it was a leak from the pipe that I had just replaced!

Long story short: check the SC coolant purge plugs.

They were a couple leaks, everytime you fix something else would pop. Change alot of the hoses though. Plus some other parts that were badly rusted.( I'm not a car mechanic can't recall the name of the parts changed)

Stripped down centre console to prep it for Black Gloss spray.

Bits sanded down and primed so far.

Another sanding down process to smooth out all dents. After that, 2 layers of Audi Phantom Black will go on and 2 or 3 clear coats to follow.

What did you do to your C6 today?

Great result so far. Looking forward to seeing it in the car.

Also working on sprucing up my center console. Installed a BFI shift knob and replaced peeling start button and shifter surround panel tonight.

    Before and after:

I eventually plan to wrap or paint the wood grain interior panels too. I like them ok but they are pretty worn in some places.

Thanks! It transformed center console, like massive difference when you see it in person, made car look "younger"

AliExpress parts, and 5 min of time, all under $100, button and shifter together.

    Someone sent me a PM.

STARY STOP button takes literally 20sec to replace. I used one of those very sharp bent screwdriver hooks, and just clipped on corner and pulled up, comes out enough to unplug cable.

    That grille looks nice!!.

Have been looking into this to have better room to install a light bar behind it (I KNOW, tacky af, but practical and useful since my headlights are foggy af from the inside)

Mind sharing where you got the grille from and for how much? Do you have more pics and how is the fitment?

Mind sharing where you got the grille from and for how much? Do you have more pics and how is the fitment?
Thanks. I actually had the same exact idea to do a hidden light bar at some point lol. Gets reeaal dark on the country roads around here and sometimes the high beams could use some help.

    The grille came from eBay.

I’m really happy with the look. It’s actually more of a black chrome finish which I wasn’t expecting, but I like it. There’s also a matte black version.

Fitment wasn’t perfect, but not in a way that’s visible. Installation was pretty straightforward. Whole front bumper has to come off. I’ll post some close-up photos this weekend.

Installed my new shift knob today. Doesn’t match the amaretto as good as I’d like. But it gets rid of the hideous oem knob
