    Painting intake manifold

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I just took my valve covers off this past weekend. Threw new seals on them and refinished them. I didnt get them powder-coated just sanded the old pealing paint down by hand and used heat resistant pain. Has anyone taken their intake manifold off and painted it? Seems like it could really dress up the engine bay for only a few bucks for a can of engine paint.

I powder coated my VCs black and got the JHM IM powdered wrinkle red. I love the way it looks:

Yeah it can be done and after a few seconds of searching on Google images I found the four below. Red and Blue seem to be popular colors that people choose when they get their intake manifolds modified by JHM but you could always remove the intake manifold yourself and paint it. Plus it is a hell of a lot cheaper that way too!

I've seen black also, but out of all that I've seen I think I prefer they gray/charcoal.

Pretty much same goes for the valve covers. I haven't decided what I want to do with mine. My car is black, but I'm not that crazy about doing them in red or black

Im a fan of the way it looks from the factory. Very clean and simple...

Shouldnt be that hard to rattlecan it though...and make sure you go satin or wrinkle...gloss doesnt seem like it would match that well.

like I said, not my thing but B6JoeS4 did a bangup job when he painted his VC in wrinkle red

This was done with VHT Wrinkle Red. It's really popular in the JDM world but a lot of the Audi guys think they're too good for simple paint.

You basically apply one heavy coat and then either pop it in the oven and stink up the house or just hit it with a heat gun to produce the heat gun. Allow it to cure for 48 hours and presto - all done.

I'm liking that VHT wrinkle paint. Joe, how's it holding up? I have to redo my VC's soon. They are pealing badly. Noticed it on the last oil change. The o-ring on my oil filler cap took paint off...not good.

Any pros/cons to the common powder coat? (I hope I'm not threadjacking)

Wrinkle paint is fairly resistant. I've owned two Hondas and both had those finishes from the factory; cleaning is a bit trickier but overall I think the look is one of "high-tech".

    Hahaha. Blue right?

Seriously though I was wondering if you used any special paint or something along those lines because that looks MINT. Cant believe a heat gun made it look that professional.
