2013 Ordered -- Ibis White on Magma Red Premium

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I know theres a few threads on 2013 orders being put in, thought Id start mine too!

Just put in my order! Looking like June build, hopefully July delivery

    Went with Premium
    Ibis White
    Magma Red seats
    6 Speed Manual
    Sports Differential
    Heated Rear Seats
Premium comes with Nav, backup camera, 19" Peelers, push button start, blind spot monitors, back up sensors and Bang & Olufsen sound system

Very excited! This is my first brand new car.

Below is a shot of my last car. From what Ive read and felt, the S4 feels very similar to the 335. Mine was chipped, with a few other small things under the hood, was pushing around 400hp, it did feel quicker then the S4 in stock trim and probably is faster. Time to move on to something new though

Welcome man! You'll love the S4 - Chipped it is quicker than a stock M3.

You got rear heated seats! Sweeet! I didn't know that was an option. I've got an Ibis White with Magma Red/black interior also great color combo if I might say so myself :)

I wanted to chip it... nervous with all thats going on with cars getting flagged, so I will likely wait on the tune.
Heated rear seats are a new option in the premium car now in Canada, not sure what models theyre available on in the states

I am thinking the Estoril blue with the silver alcantara inserts. Less leather means less heat and less sliding around. However, I don't see mention of the silver alcantara on 2013 order form, just black and the other three leather colors.

I don't see the Alu optics side blades on the order form either, and I think the S4 needs them to stand out a bit more from a regular A4. There are a lot of A4's on the road here including S-lines, but very few actual S4s.

The stainless inlays are tempting because of the piano black cluster surround. I was planning on replacing the silver plastic since it reminds me of the cheap silver plastic in my C6.

And if we can somehow get the RS4 style rims, I think the decision is made.

You arent seeing the alcantara because its gone for 2013, just full leather.

I agree about the silver trim, I think it looks cheap, always have... I plan to wrap or paint mine gloss black

Oh no, the alcantara is gone? Then is the Nappa then just an upgraded leather/pleather? That sucks, I really liked the silver alcantara. I am sure it would be a bitch to keep clean, but I was up for the challenge.

In Canada yes, in the US, no.

In Canada you can only get Fine Nappa Leather now. In the US you can still get the black / silver Alcantara.

For 2012, heated rear seats were on the special order option list. Option cost plus a $500 special order fee, so I decided to skip that one as I rarely have people in the back seats anyway.

Congrats on the order, would definitely like to see photos when it arrives. White looks great on the S4 (just my biased opinion!), whether Ibis or Glacier!

Haven't we heard this before and it turned out to be false?

    According to Wikipedia:
    Quote Originally Posted by Wikipedia
Audi debuted a new generation of quattro in the 2010 RS5. The key change is the replacement of the Torsen Type "C" centre differential with an Audi-developed "Crown Gear" differential. Whilst this is superficially the same as a normal Open differential, adapted for a centre application, it has some key differences:
Audi quattro Crown Gear centre differential

The central carrier and associated spider gears interface directly to two crown wheels connected to the front and rear drive shafts
The two crown wheels interface to the spider gears at different diameters, and so produce different torque when turned by the spider gears. This is engineered to produce a 40:60 static torque split front and rear.
Each crown wheel interfaces to the respective output shaft directly, whilst the spider carrier interfaces to each output shaft using a clutch pack which gives the unit the ability to control torque distribution over and above the static torque distribution.

If one axle loses grip, different rotational speeds arise inside the differential which result in an increase in axial forces that force the clutch plates to close. Once closed, the output shaft is locked resulting in the diversion of the majority of the torque to the axle achieving better traction. In the Crown Gear differential up to 85% of torque can flow to the rear, and up to 70% of torque can be diverted to the front axle.

The features of the Crown Gear differential provide the following benefits over the Torsen Type "C"

The ability to set up a more stable torque distribution, with full locking whereas the Torsen can only provide a torque distribution up to the Torque Bias Ratio; i.e., the Crown Gear differential can lock fully, regardless of bias ratio. Unlike the Torsen, the Crown Gear differential doesn't operate like a limited slip differential and can operate, fully locked, with no traction on one output shaft.
Easier integration into control electronics allowing four-wheel electronic torque vectoring with or without the active rear sport differential
Considerable reduction in size and weight (at 4.8 kg, some 2 kg lighter than the Torsen Type C)

The net result of this advance in quattro is the ability of the vehicle electronics to fully manage the vehicle dynamics in all traction situations, whether in cornering, acceleration or braking or in any combination of these.

I thought that's what quattro-based cars always had or is this for the sports rear diff?

This is the example I've seen from a while back explaining the Crown Gear Diff...I didn't think it was new.

It's for the centre diff, not the rear diff. It looked for a while like it had been added for 2011 but that appears to have been false hope.

Yeah if you dig up the threads I eventually solved the mystery. A change in drive shafts changed the center diff's shape. The same thing happened on A4s and let's face it Audi wouldn't just drop the crown diff in an A4 right out of the gate.

Ordered from Queensway. You? Brown is not an option with estoril but would look great with ibis/glacier/lava grey.

Is it something you can post (or at least that part of it)?

Edit: I did some Googling and it seems that perhaps only the S-tronic trans has the Crown gear diff. Does the product memo make any distinction between the S-tronic and the 6MT with regards to the Crown Center Diff?

It's odd that they will let you order Estoril Blue with Chestnut Brown / Black fine nappa leather in the US, but not in Canada.
