I've never done it on my s4 but on all my prior cars I'd do it before an oil change about 100-200 miles or so before it's due. I'd do a 1/3 can in the oil, 1/3 in the gas tank, and a 1/3 though a vacuum line. After doing the vacuum line shut it off and let it sit for a good 15-20 min then start it up and drive it.

Don't sea foam your engine please.

Regular oil changes should be enough.

This is if you were planning on dumping sea foam where the oil goes, if you're going to dump it in the gas tank then do it anytime?

I finally did it for the first time a few months ago, and it may not have been necessary but I figured what the hell. I threw about a 1/2 bottle in the crank case and the other 1/2 in the fuel tank (almost empty) just before leaving work, and then did my oil change right when I got home.... They had the 5.5-quart jug of Mobil 1 on sale at Advanced, so I ran it in there for a few minutes (after I drained the old stuff out) and then I drained it all out again... Then I filled back up with 6.5qts. Castrol 0W30 (German-blend) and the new Meyle filter, and the car has ran great since. I don't think it's necessary more often than every 40-60k miles, and if you do it; definitely run another 5-6qts of some cheap full-syn afterwards, just to clean out any traces of the Seafoam.

i'm gonna try seafoam soon, but just in the fuel tank and through the vacuum line...because I change oil every 5000 miles, even more often sometimes.
Wondering if it can foul the plugs a bit?

If you're going to put Seafoam in your oil, don't bother if you're only going to run it for 50 miles. It will do nothing. Says right on the can to run it for ~200 miles THEN change your oil. If you're going to put it in, put half the can in your oil and the other half in your gas tank the Week before you change your oil.

    Tnx for the info.
It's now just a question of what pops up in the mail first, ngk's or seafoam :)

Disagree. Have you even used seafoam? I have used it on multiple cars (mostly audi') and have had nothing but success with it.

I recently purchased a 2.8, just so I had one, and it was sludged to shit. Two seafoam treatments, some fresh oil, and now it runs great. This is just one example.

Don't knock it till' you've tried it.

I've used it. It works just as well as kerosene, but with a mark up in price.

I would much rather add some ATF to help clean out my crank case.

+1. SeaFoam is a great product. I've used it every vehicle I've owned (American, Japanese and German) and wouldn't even think of not using it. I run a full can through the S4 every oil change.

^I think every oil change is a bit excessive, as long as you're running a good full-syn motor oil (of the correct weight, etc.) and change it every 5-7k miles... Almost all oils today have detergents to prevent sludge build up, so there really shouldn't be anything in the engine as long as it hasn't been neglected.

I've only done two oil changes on the car (once when I first got it in Sept/11 and again this spring) so I probably shouldn't have used "every". Sorry for the confusion.

For other vehicles, I usually gave them the SeaFoam treatment during the spring oil change.
