This thead is quite loose. Anything you can relate works for me. Havent seen your car in a while....post pics here and mod stickies. Today I got out the detail brushes. Deep cleaned the grills, diffuser and valence. Same for the hubs, calipers and shields. Fresh coat of flat black on the hubs and wheel wax on the calipers.

Ben, I was driving in 2nd gear and the car stalled, white smoked started bellowing out from under the dash and engulfed the cabin. Basically found the engine wiring burnt and melted to the fuse panel. I need an engine harness, fuel ignition harness, fuse panel/relay panel, fuel injectors, and upper manifold gasket. I can not source the parts from VW because they are too old and don't want to go through the hassle of locating everything and installing, plus the car is only worth about $2000. A local junkyard is giving me $475 for the car. I'm going to pull the racks and such off it and look for another MK3 Golf or B5 Passat Wagon. There's hardly anything out there though!

Damn, Chris...that sucks! Hate that happened. You have to accept that dd's have to be disposable in certain instances. Hate you are not local. There are so many old school vw guys around that do all the rebuilds etc and have so many parts. These guys hit up vw shows just to sell hard to find parts. Go for a b5 avant...drool.

Installed Hoen H11 foglights yesterday. The difference is really noticeable although not too fond of the bluish tinge. Installation was fairly easy although the driver-side bulb was a pain to get out coz it was too tight

So far, most excellent! I haven't hit the track yet, prob not for another month. Street use has been good, just slightly more bite than stock. What I loved: when I bed them in, NO FADE, just more bite as they got hot! My stock brakes got mushy pretty quick with repeated hard braking. I cannot wait to see what these feel like at PIR.
They fill out the 20s quite nicely too, I was horrified at how small the stocks looked behind them. Now the rears bug me...I know larger rears are fairly pointless, but ehhhh.

BTW sorry to read abt your Golf! I also vote for B5 Avant, but I'm biased.

B5.5 Passat GLX wagons can be really, really nice though too. Or get a TDI Golf Mk4 and make up for the S5's MPGs, heh.

No clear coat. The calipers were done with the G2 epoxy kit. The hubs are high temp flat black and I did the shields with high temp gloss black. I actually hand painted the shields using a sponge brush and did several thick coats.

this is not from today, but i dropped the car a little more on a kw HAS kit. removed the helper spring on the front setup to get it this low. will have to raise this a bit, the car is pretty undrivable in nyc as is. looks pretty though, so i figured i'd post. excuse the shitty pictures, but the most complex camera i know how to use is my phone.

Anyway, I purchased a case of Sonax from Phil at Detailers Domain a while back, but I never really got to use it to it's full advantage as I clean my wheels/car on a weekly basis. So, there's really no real way to gauge Sonax's effectiveness. However, this week, I took my mom's summer wheels out of storage for some cleaning with Sonax. Keep in mind that I haven't clean the barrels in about 3-4 years and it's been building brake dust and salt like no other...

Sonax at work. I let it soaked for about 10 minutes....

After Sonax...btw, I kept the sonax on while I used a microfiber mitten to wash it.

I could have done a better job scrubbing the wheels, but it's my mom's car and she doesn't really care....

Overall, I'm really impressed with Sonax and definitely will use it again. However, if you can your wheels on a weekly basis, there isn't much of a need for Sonax.

I tried simple green before and it's not even close. My buddy on the other hand started Green1....haven't tried that yet. He's pitching it to NASCAR teams and sponsored a few Indy teams.

SmartTop install for '13 S5.

Just put in a Mods4Cars SmartTop for the S5. The actual model is listed as A5 Cab but it works for both and I can confirm it will work as it should on the 2013 model as well. The connections in the instructions are the same. Installation was straightforward and took about 15 minutes. The instructions were clear and concise. This is the second SmartTop I have installed, also did one on a Porsche Cabrio and both have been simple and painless self-installs.

Can now remotely open or close the cabrio top, also remote windows only, up or down if desired. Inside the cabin, engine on or off, I can pull and release to open the top. No need to hold the switch up or down. The best part for me is that I can set the car windows to go down while putting down the top instead of them going all the way up. I don't know why Audi does that but this module gives you the choice during cabrio top open/close. Nice to start top opening and windows down as I walk towards to the car to drive away.
