    Quick question.

    I used the selection of "common variables in the Mark P graphs" from the first post for my .cfg file. All seem to be recognized when the log is taken, but about half of those variables are either 0's or a constant value all the way through. Is that accurate? Or should there be readings for everything there?

    Having a problem with ME7 recognizing my cable. It is a genuine Ross Tech cable. I thought I downloaded all the necessary drivers from Nef. Attached is a screen shot. Can anyone help with this? Thanks. [IMG][/IMG]

    ^ There are some tricks to getting a VCDS cable to work.. Did you download this virtual com port from Ross-Tech? You'll need to do that in order to assign it to something that ME7 logger knows to read.

    You have to manipulate MarkPs workbook in order to work. Post 13 on this thread. You have to log in to see/download the attachment.

    I did download those drivers. Tried both the default and selecting mulitple COM ports with ME7 open and it still doesn't recognize the cable. Maybe missing something? Tried FTDI as well with no luck.

    No personal experience with the VCDS cable but I do know from reading that it has to be in dumb mode to work with the logger

    Think I finally got the cable to work, but can't locate the correct ECU from Nef. See screen shots below.

    This is a shot of my engine control from VCDS

    [IMG][/IMG]

    After second attempt, realized it still wasn't quite rite.

    Third attempt. I can't find this file from Nef.

    The 5283/pump V7 file looks to be what I need. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Just seeing this.
    What needs to be manipulated? Within the .cfg file or in the Excel file?

    Are you sure you grabbed the correct .bin file for your ecu?

    I think that's my problem. I did match both numbers but am still having an issue. Tried pulling the bin files from both Nef and Nyet's site.

    Looks like the tuner changed some infoz in the component field of the .bin.

    You need a copy of your exact .bin (one on your ecu now, not off the web) to build the .ecu, get the .ecu from your tuner, or hand edit a .ecu to match.

    Jfonz does this also. Looks cool and all, but makes life difficult in other areas.
    There are only 2 things needed to make an Audi work properly - Duct tape and WD40. If it moves and it shouldn't - Duct tape. If it doesn’t move and it should - WD40.

    That makes sense. Might be screwed as I picked up the ECU and fueling second hand. Have another ECU. Will have to sort that one out I guess. Thanks.

    Use the .ecu that gave you this error.

    Copy the 5283/pumpV7 from the error screen,
    Delete the 2.7l V6/5VT from the .ecu,
    Paste the 5283/pumpV7 where the 2.7l V6/5VT used to be,
    Save.

    Might take a few tries, the .bin needs to match the .ecu perfectly.

    I hate it when people change that shit. Makes me7logger a little more difficult, and might mess with vcds also.
    Might have just been a vcds update, but blk115 was not labeled properly last time I looked at a fonz car. Maybe didnt know what .lbl file to use?

    I noticed this thread was created in 2012. Is the information still pertinent?

    YEP- some dead links but the information is valid.
    FYI--to use a RossTech Cable the following will help:

    INSTALLATION NOTES- How to use a Ross Tech cable

    For use with older VCDS dongles only
    ie- HEX-USB plus CAN w/ UART chip

    Secure a copy of the VCP driver- http://www.ross-tech.com/vag-com/usb...l-com-port.php

    LOAD Virtual COM Port Driver-- to allow the USB cable to mimic a serial port.
    set new device to COM2 in "PORTS"
    check VCP for UBS device in "USB controllers"

    IF done correcly you will see the following w/cable connected to the PC only.
    in " PORTS"--- USB Serial Port COM2
    in "USB Controllers"--- RossTech HEX or KEY USB Interface with VCP

    To run LOGGER
    BE SURE the following data is correct in your ECU file
    EXAMPLE:
    HWNumber = 0261207928 (requested was 0261207928)
    SWNumber = 1037366497 (requested was 1037366497)
    PartNumber = 4B0906018DH (requested was 4B0906018DH)
    SWVersion = 0004 (requested was 0004)
    EngineId = 1.8L R4/5VT (requested was 1.8L R4/5VT)

    If any of the above is incorrect the LOGGER will give an error message
    noting what it was looking for and what it found and then stop w/o running.
    Edit your ECU file with WORDPAD to make corrections or comment-out the information using ";"---this will by-pass the info scan.

    Runing LOGGER-

    open VCDS and in OPTIONS uncheck Intellegent mode--close app
    open LOGGER using Desk top short-cut
    CTRL-C to stop.
    For data analysis- Use post processor ECUxPlot on newly created file in
    LOG directory
    NOTE--ECUxPlot requires an old version of JAVA
