    Over filled Oil in 1.8t

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi,

Last week, I had an oil change in my car 98 audi a4 1.8t. Today I checked the level on dipstick and the oil level is 0.6~1cm above the top mark.

Is this okay or do I need to drain the extra oil?

PS: I use the bigger Mann oil filter with Castrol syntec 5w40

Should be fine drain a little out not the whole lot of the oil but some until you reach desired level.....won't do too much damage but can screw up a ton of seals if left un-attended.

The owner's manual calls for 4.3 quarts, but mine takes 4 quarts/1 gallon exact. Mine would also be too high if going by the owner's manual. 1 gallon places my oil exactly in the middle of the markings on the dip stick tube, if you want to start off with that next time you do your oil change. Then add more oil as necessary from there. I also use the larger Mann filter.

Drained the excess oil yesterday. Mechanic said it is okay and not a big deal to have oil level slightly more than the maximum mark.

Also he said that overfill actually means, oil is upto the top of the dipstick pushing the dipstick up from the original position during normal operation.:)

My buddy had the PO overfill their 1.8t wagon by 2 quarts! The car had a NASTY tick/diesel sound and they sold the 02 passat wagon to him for 1 grand. We changed oil and filter, seafoamed and it hasn't done it since.
Plus K04'd/3 inch DP the thing is a monster and a hell of a car for 1 grand lol.

If you have oil coming out of the top of your dipstick, you have SERIOUS problems lol.

I add 4 quarts and then drive it for about 20k until it gets thick, then I add a little water. Perfect oil level every time.

^You are supposed to use flavored water. The engine does not take to kindly to just any regular old water.

*note: if anybody ever adds water to their engine, do yourself a favor and start searching for a replacement engine right after

I use perrier... My engine likes the french stuff. The carbonation adds 100hp to the butt dyno.

I like to carry some Crisco cooking oil in my trunk for those "just in case" situations.
