I have a pair of 2.7 allroad turbos laying around, I saw that this k03 has a k04 style compressor. Im thinking of swapping the 1.8 k03 turbine housing, anyone tried this already??

The stock turbos on an allroad are KO3's so essentially you would just have a KO3 with a 1.8T exhaust housing. The difference between the KO3 and KO4 is the compressor wheel/turbine wheel not the cover.

from what I understand from all the info i've looked through the compressor on the left is a k03 and the compressor on the right is k04,
my stock turbo has the same compressor as the left.....so what your saying is k04 has a bigger turbine too??

Correct! An untrained eye might not see the real differences between the two but the K04 compressor wheel has much deeper fins and its taller. This will allow for increased air flow. Also look how much more material is present on the backing plate of the K04 as the K03.

I am still learning turbos...K04 guts in a K03 shell is better in performance than a K04 stock assembly? Why not just slap a K04 right on, or is this an easier said than done topic? Or are more mechanical things needed than just bolting the K04 on?

K04 internals will not fit inside a K03 without machining. Basically you would then have a K04. K04s bolt right on, you just have to make sure you have the right exhaust housing flange as it differs from 2.7T to 1.8T applications See the images below.
