Replaced LF strut mount and a front sway link bolt that mysteriously disappeared.. checked torque on RF strut top. Getting ready to inspect the cam follower when I do an oil change next. Will be purchasing the stud convert kit.

Exactly how I ended up doing mine :’(

You can slightly lower the subframe and not drop it. As I’m sure you experienced, it’s a PITA to get to that top bolt.

Gonna need to move the hard coolant pipe. Pump will hit when installing/removing with stud kit, why I never installed one I have.

Replaced rear caliper. Due to seized e-brake.
Total of 7 minutes not including bleeding . Easy caliper to do.
Helped that I did the rotors and pads last month and noticed the ebrake stuck.
Lifted ebrake cable out with my fingers. 13 and 15mm to remove pins. Lifted caliper out. Swapped over hydraulic line with my 13mm. Done. Pop caliper back in. Put bolts back with lock tight. Compress ebrake with channel locks and hook on cable.
    Done ....
10 minutes more to bleed. Car back on the road.

Yup, luckily not an insurmountable task, but an annoying one at the very least. I did contemplate going the subframe route, but the angle grinder was close by

After almost a year of sitting there not driving it, I decided it was time to make my A4 street legal again and start driving it. Out with the test pipe, in with the high flow cat.

For the first time ever, my mechanic looked under the car and failed me. That was last year and was 100% why I bought a B8 S4

The car has been parked since. I was just sick of dealing with that car and needed a break. Now I want to get back to driving it to keep the miles off the S4.

After 30 months…I finally have my car back! The only downside, the guy didn’t tighten my temp plate down and well…I was driving back to Melbourne with no plates on my car, in the rain!

On the bright side, you got it back! I suppose it was an uneventful trip with no issues besides the temp plate?

Got some not-so-good news back on my Avant. It looks like the machine shop that replaced my valve stem seals also discovered serious scoring on the camshaft journals, and pitting on the camshafts themselves. I'll have a proper report hopefully tomorrow, but that's what I could suss out so far. I may be looking at a new head and camshafts, or failing that, a replacement engine and then salvaging the best parts between them.

Or if I can get hold of the 4.2 V8, just drop that in...just kidding...or maybe not

No issues except, since it rained so dang much within the first 5 days and the on-base draining system is horrible, I had to drive it through a nice stretch of puddles. Now, I can hear something fluttering on the left rear. Something is loose and I will see if they can find it. It's been raining every single day for no reason other than to punish me! Taking her in tomorrow to have all of my fluids changed, cancel the tire rotations, but add in to have the plastic seat back fixed, a new safety belt mechanism, because it no longer retracts automatically, and a new battery for the key fob.

Once fixed, I will drive it around for another good week or two doing my Stage 1 ECU tune from 034.

Putting the car in the air and hunting for the source of a clunk noise.
I hear and feel a clunk when letting the clutch out, typically in 1st or 2nd gear.

    Anyone got suggestions?

What Did You Do To Your B7 Today?..

Came home from a trip out east last night to a flat tire at the airport. Got in really late and just wanted to get home so I didn’t notice the flat until this morning when I was going to take my kid to soccer. It was droving really funny last night and TCS kicked in on a very mild corner on the highway but since it was midnight and I didn’t really have a safe spot to pull off I drove the 15 miles home from the airport, just a bit slower than normal. The tire was at 0psi this morning with a huge metal thing sticking out of the center of the tread. Looks almost like a bicycle spoke…

Yea most likely patchable at least. There’s so much highway construction here I’m not sure when I picked it up but it’s a slow enough leak that I put 20psi in two hours ago and it’s not flat yet. I might just pick up a patch kit rather than going to discount. Anyone have patch kit reccos? Or are they pretty much all the same?

Took her to Sebring, and drove 3 laps around the track! Best day ever! Then the top part of my grill which covers the radiator….broke into pieces, so it’s time to replace the whole grill. In addition, the hood doesn’t stay open, so I had to prop it with the umbrella to cool the engine down after doing 3 laps…and then the piece broke. So…I’ll look into a DTM grill, as well.

I usually do this every couple months. :) Seriously though- I do and it biiites. You’re lucky- 90+% of the time mines within an inch of the sidewall, and you can’t plug or patch there (as that’s at the edge of- or too close to the edge of- the belts.) Mine are so consistently at the edge and non-fixable that I now keep two new tires in the basement (pretty f’ed up to have luck like this. )

Anyway I know there are various camps on this, but the majority advocates for an off the rim patch on the inside of the tire. Yours is a perfect candidate. Any reputable place can do it quick, while you wait. It’ll be as good as new once done properly.

    Missed it.

It's been a bit over a month since I handed the car in for the valve stem seal repair. Unfortunately, due to the car overheating some time prior to me taking ownership, the engine is pretty much toast.

The head journals are shot, the camshafts are pitted and scored, cylinder #3 has collapsed rings, so next item on the agenda is to try and source a working engine and try to assemble a working unit from all the spares.

samething happened to me last week, parked the car in the garage, and I heard a psshhhhh, first I thought it was water dripping on the hot exhaust, but then realized that was the tire.

I thought I could plug it on the car, but damn this indy500 are hard to plug, had to remove the tire to have more grip on the tool. 20 minutes and the tire was back

Id say a nail thats bent and worn. Either plug it, or if you can take the tire off, those newer plug patches work really nice. Used them a few times. Screenshot_20220926-095044.jpg

Found out that Melbourne Audi never rescheduled me for a full service and fluid check, so I said f-it and forego rescheduling it again, when there’s no guarantee of giving me a loaner car. I’m just gonna do my stage 1 Ecu tune. I know all the fluids are still full, since the gov surprisingly enough, took care of it for 30 months. I wanna find the oil drain plug, so I can change out the oil and refill it.

you mean the weight? they are 25 lbs without tires

you want to go 20'' on a B7? 20'' are way too big on a b7 imo, looks funky. even 19'' are a bit big. Imo , 18'' with meaty tires looks the best.

What Did You Do To Your B7 Today?..

Agreed, 20s are Donk wheels on a b7. 19s look good if done right.

It’s all about the proportions in relation to the wheel well. 20s look weird. On a b8 they look great. But b6/7s just can’t pull it off IMO.

Also agree, 20's makes a b7 look like a matchbox car, lol. If roads were better, id consider 19's. But 18's are perfect imo. Also, cuz I like light weight. My 18x8.5 are 19.2lbs, 40lbs with new tires. My 17" stocks were 25lbs...

Any tire shop can easily plug then patch it up for free, especially with Firestone. Done mine just a couple of months ago.

Wow, this is a first. I remember bringing my car in to the dealer back in 2013 (33,000 miles) and they replaced the power seat motor on the driver side but messed up this very part when reinstalling the seat back in place. Long story short they ordered me new ones, as a matter of fact a whole pair. To this day I have not been able to replace them due to time and have totally forgot about it. Just sitting inside my 'drawer of parts' somewhere.
Nice reproduction of the part by the way.

I actually broke a few of those rail covers on my b8 seats when I was moving them around the basement. Never quite knew what to do about them but I’ve never had issues brushing up against the rail so I moved on. That’s a clever idea though. 3D printing is so awesome…
