I ran khumo ecstas on my 93 Z28 for three sets and on my B6 for 3 sets. I got around 25-30k miles out of them. Not the grippiest tire out there, but at half the price of Dunlop and michelin, the grip is almost as good. I even autocrossed the Z28 with them.

Conti DWS's just saying....or even Hankook Ventus 12s if you're after a summer tire.

I found the Salespeople at Tire Rack pretty knowledgeable about the various tires. Also, you might want to pm the guys at Eurocode who sponsor these forums. They have done allot of personal testing of tires during their suspension components development and might be able to give you a strong recommendations.

Unfortunately, tires are often the most overlooked aspect of modifying. Yet they are perhaps the single most important component of your entire suspension. Because odviously, that is where contact takes place between you and the road.

Now of course it also depends on your own personal driving style and habits as well. If you are a sporty or aggressive driver, (driving a well designed German engineered car), why would you want to compromise your handling and saftey?

One wrong slide could cost you allot more than the $700 savings!

It is funny how people will think nothing of spending $$$ on fancy wheels then get cheap when wrapping them with lesser tires.

It should be the other way around!

Just my own two cents worth!

You bring up good and valid points, I just dont assume a tire is better because it costs more. Back in the day I had the original Falken Azenis on my MKIII Jetta I would still buy those if they were still out, stuck better than any tire I had at the time! I was looking at Kumho Ecsta LE Sport, tires. They are summer only, as I will use the factory 18" all seasons for the winter. Keep up the reviews please.

    PS.
My A5 has been driven pretty hard and I plan om doing the same with the A4 Sline, and the Dunlops have help up great and are a fantastic tire, but with a baby on the way I am keeping all options open.

why not get the Pirelli P6 tire then? i'm sure they would fit the S4 and are much cheaper. only down side is that they would probably last 20-25K miles.

Have you looked at Sumintomo HTR ZIII's? I know a lot of guys that even run them on their track cars and I hear great things. I just mounted a set on my new wheels and so far so good. They also have great ratings for tread wear.

Have you thought about Conti DWS 245/35/19? Only $200 a pop and weight is only 22lbs.
That is what I'm going to use on my new rims.

Where did you find for $200? I just ordered off tirerack this week and they are $985 all in with shipping (no tax). Still a good deal for a great tire I think...

Dude I said the same thing. That's what I'll be running most likely when I wear out my Dunlops. I will say they've lasted quite well for how I drive. 17k and still strong.

I've been very happy with 3 out of 4 sets of Kumhos I've fitted on various vehicles:

    Ectsa MX
    Ectsa ASX
    Ectsa STX (truck)

I didn't care for the Ecsta SPT (too noisy)

I've also run Conti DWS and Sumo HTZII's and liked both of those.

    My tire preferences:

    Good (not max) grip,
    quiet,
medium riding (some flex, not soft, not too hard),
    medium lasting (~40k)

'Performance' All seasons tend to fit my bill.

Curious if anyone can comment on the kumho ku25 ecsta ast for winter driving?

I was looking at the General Altimax HP but I guess those are being discontinued soon.

I have never had a problem with any of Kumhos tires and I have had many of theirs, perfect daily driver tires.

Nope, I used both the older ASX and the newer 4X, they are both very solid, decent in light snow (less than 2"), good on hard packed snow, great in the wet and dry, very good daily driver all seasons. Nowhere near as good as dedicated summer and winter tires but for the $ they are very good.

You can try Toyo Proxes 4 +, they are 169/tire. I've run them on my old car and currently have 27k on my current car and still have a 9 out of 10 tire condition the last checkup at the dealer. Great in wet and has good grip on dry as well.

For what it's worth, I got 50k miles out of my P7 cinturatos and still weren't at the wear bars. They lost wet and snow grip so I switched to PureContacts. These new contis are great in rain. Smooth but a tad louder. Not expensive either

Just to throw another tire option at you. I have Yokohama's new Advan Sport A/S tires on my allroad. They have been great in everything but snow and that's only because the snow hasn't fallen yet. I have been really impressed with the performance and how quiet they are.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. Good to hear from people's experience rather than reviews from websites which could easily be misleading.

I've got a quote for 4 Kumho ku25, $520 installed. Seems good to me...

Also $40 for an alignment seems like a sweet deal.

So I got the Kumho's and man are they awesome. The car drives so much more confidently. Better then when I first purchased it....the dealership (used car) put on some new tires and I swear that although they felt nice at first....complete crap. Right now my car is like driving a brand new car. I has seemingly also fixed a steering wheel shake issue that I noticed on the high way. With the old tires I would slide in rain while braking...absolutely ridiculous. Now with these new tires I can't wait for the first snow and rain to test them.

Hopefully the tread will last a long time.
