how do i reset my windows

i have a 2000 audi tt 1.8 quattro. the passenger window goes up and down fine with the door opened or closed but it doesn't go down the 1/4 inch its suppose to when the door is open. the drivers window does go down the 1/4 inch when the door is open and goes up when the door is closed but sometimes when the drivers door is closed and i try to put the window up it goes up halfway and then just goes back down on its own. its acting really weird. i just replaced the regulator on the drivers side because the cable was snapped and it doesn't seem like anything is catching but i don't know why the window is basically just doing whatever the hell it wants. when the door is open it goes up and down fine but when the door is closed sometimes it starts being dumb and going up a little and back down on its own. bad wiring? ecu? idk.. any advice?

Try holding up both window buttons for 5sec+ when the car is on. Has worked on my car.

Check your display, does it think any of the doors are open when they are closed or closed when they're open? I thought I had a window problem with the drop but it turns out it was a faulty door sensor, which apparently is not uncommon on these cars.

haha yea this whole time i thought my windows were all screwed up. mainly because the person who had the car before me butchered up all the wiring in the whole car for some bullshit aftermarket alarm which i have no idea why when the stock one is awesome but yea i found out my drivers window was acting weird because it was catching on some rubber whenever the door was closed and i found out that the reason for the passenger one not going down the 1/4 inch was because of that door sensor. thats exactly how i figured it out too.. that the car didn't know the door was open. how did you go about fixing it? a new door latch isn't cheap

to cycle the windows, use the window switch to open the windows, hold switch "open" for min 5 seconds even though the windows are fully down, then proceed to close windows and hold switch in "close" position for an additional 5 seconds after they are fully closed.

Sorry I haven't been back on in a few days, I did not want to fork over 300 for a new door latch, so i simply cut the wires to the sensor so that it thinks my door is always closed and it puts the window up all the time...college budget Audi repair...If you want pictures I have a few and I can do a basic write up for this ghetto fix, let me know!
