I will tell you that the retrofit is well worth it. My headlights are bright, I drown out other peoples lights as if they aren't even there. Love that.

I made a template in AutoCadd. I have attached the template I made. There are 2 alignment squares to help you size it correctly when you print it out. I hope this helps out.

Just a head up, when I put my lights together I only used the longer screws to secure the lens to the housing to hold the whole unit together. There are 6 total per projector and it is plenty to keep it all together. The template has all the mounting points on it, but you only really need to drill out the depo and lens holes. you can skip drilling out the H1 Housing holes if you want

    Good info!

I'm not loving the Depo housings and am thinking of going back to my stock housings. Anyone have a template for the Mini H1 7.0s into the stock housings?

I’d just take them apart and trace them and make your own template. Chances are they are the same

from what I can tell, by inspection of the original H1 1.0 template at the beginning of this thread, you can use the same template but you will need to trim the top of them to make them fit. I would cut them out and them mock them in the headlight and just trim back whatever is holding you back little by little until it fits in there.

But I think that vavJETTAw36 is right, I had a lot of space with my template, I could have easily made them have more material if i wanted to. I guess the only way to see is to try it and see.

also if you wanted to trace and make your own template feel free. That's why i gave the footprint for both the Depo and the mini H1. use the mini H1 footprint and just trace your projector over it.

If someone does do a Valeo--> Mini H1 conversion if they could post back and let us know the changes they had to make to make them fit. I'm sure someone will thank you.

Bringing back and oldie in hopes to gain a little bit of info before attempting a retrofit.

My question is: the piece that is cut out from the bottom of housing (shown below from original write up) does it get fastened back in somehow? I know the ballast goes in this square section but I can’t see how that would “seal” up housing.

If anyone can lend some feedback on this please let me know! Thanks!

My solution was to cut a rectangle out of lexan that fits the opening. You’ll need to drill holes in the lexan that line up with the available mounting holes in the housings so you can attach them with screws. For a gasket I used the rubber gasket from the stock ballasts that I had, however, you could diy something if you don’t have them.

I just picked up a set of Depo H7 ecodes for my 2001 A4. I see some reference to turn signal bulb/ connector issues. What, if anything, needs to be done to the turn signal connections?
Will US model bulbs and holders work on Euro housings? Or do I need to purchase bulbs to fit the euro bulb holder and the modify the car side connector?

Hi was reading through this project and I have a question about my 2001 b5s4 hid, the bulb socket in particular the passenger side headlight if there is any vibration via ruff surface on the road it goes out. I took it apart and notice that the socket that holds the bulb the contacts are burned out so its not making good contact. saw a bulb socket on eBay with connectors that looks like the only way for them to work is to cut and spliced into the factory ballast wiring for the bolt socket. what do you think is this something that will work? do you have any suggestions for fixing this problem? thanks.

If you do a search for "b5 s4 depos" you can find the info for this. One of the pins on the socket interferes with the housing, it basically takes shaving down one of the pins on the US plug and then it fits. There are a lot of aftermarket chrome bulbs you can get to if you don't want the Amber's sticking out with the clear corner if thats what you bought. I have stealth bulbs in all of my Amber's up front. Even the fender markers.

I don't think that your problem is road vibration. I think its more likely that the wiring is old and shorted and the headlight was one of the contact points. Take a look at your wiring in the headlight, look for crack and corded wiring. Find a broken headlight and swap out the wires.

Asked this question months ago and even private messaged the guys who used to make them with no response. I had someone make and retrofit them for me and holy cow the lights are insane. So worth it. I chose the Morimoto mini 7.0 kit with some LED high beams.

I posted up a template up for the H7's. I lost the Autocad file I used so no 3d printing, but if you print and overlay over lexan (home depot) you can make yourself an adapter for like 7 bucks. You need to cut out the bottom for the ballast and disassemble/reassemble the projector in the housing. It's pretty straight forward and worth every cent.

I retrofitted my D2 S8 lights with Mori Mini 7.0's - TRS had a Bosch 2.4" retrofit kit that was bolt-in, didn't require removing lenses. I'm wondering if this kit will work for the B5 as well?

dunno if anyone checks these but I finally found a suitable LED replacemetn for my 55W HIDs that i use in my H7 housings.. They are bright as hell and worked fantastic all this summer.

downside: no DRL support unlike some like the morimoto LED

How do these compare to the old 55w HIDS? Which headlights are you running? Assuming DEPO H7?

useable with an OEM lense you think? (I'm on LHD RS4 HID's). They've always worked fine, but, I do wish they had the outward throw/distance, that my B9 does

well the depos have a decent lense. i did try swapping in a TSX lense and it did didly squat... As far as the stepped OEM lense? Could not tell you, i expect its fine.

yes but its tiny, and fits easily inside the housing. Unlike my HID balasts. Plus I hate the look of the things.

Has anyone done an MLED 2.0 in the B5 S4? Might grab a set of euro valeos and give this a go.

If you do the right lense, it will work great. Like it does in anything else. The lense makes the bulb. The bulb is secondary.

This might be a shot in the dark, but hoping to revive this thread, 'cause I'm doing some work on my RS4.

I bought a new ballast and from what I could understand from the time of buying it, it should be a replacement for the oem ballast. Don't remember where I read this. (Long time since I bought it, just been lying in my shelf for in wait for a good time to do this.)

The OEM ballast has a 6-pin, which from my understanding has 2x pins of 12v, and 2x pins of ground. (Brown is ground, right?)

The new one I got is a 4-pin, which 1x is ground, and 1x is 12v. (Black and yellow wires)

My question is, can I actually replace my OEM with the new one?
But I'm not sure if yellow or black is negative.

    Hope someone sees this <3

I'm sure this might sound like a really noob question, but I'm not too sure about this stuff.

(For some reason, I'm not able to upload a picture. Damnit)

    EDIT

Forgot to mention what kind of ballast I bought, since I didn't get up a picture.

    It's a XENUS LAD5GL, with and D2S connector
