Updated with directions for retrofitting the Morimoto Mini H1s. I'll post an actual template that you'll be able to print for making the brackets eventually.

Are the shields getting stuck? If so, I have that problem too.

I don't think the shields are physically stuck on something since they return to the proper place if I turn the lights completely off and back on... they just aren't returning when I switch from high beams back to low beams.

Wanted to post an update. One of them started working normally. I took some voltage readings for the other and got some rather odd results...

    Lights Off, Activate Low Beams
    Low Beam - 12.9v
    High Beam - 0v

Low Beams On, Activate High Beams
    Low Beam - 12.9v
    High Beam - 12.9v

Low and High Beams On, Deactivate High Beams
    Low Beam - 12.9v
    High Beam - 1.5v

Low Beams On, Deactivate Low Beams
    Low Beam - 0v
    High Beam - 0v

I have no idea where this 1.5v is coming from, but I'm guessing that is the cause of the shield not returning unless I turn off the headlights completely. Will continue to update.

Interested in hearing how that voltage issue turns out. That would suck if these things are problematic.

As far as the shield problem, try putting a resistor inline to the solenoid.

I'm pretty sure , 1.5V is still there because of the way the wiring is done b/w low and high beam. When you still have 12V on low beam, I'm pretty sure it still leaks into the high beam wiring.
Remember an halogen bulb has a very low resistance, so it washes out this 1.5V ... if really present

Basically the cutoff shield is moved with a solenoid / coil that acts as a magnet, the coil is similar to the ones in a relay, so it should draw about 100-500mA, or maybe less (at least not enough current).
YOu should try with a high wattage resistor in parallel, just to give is a try.
Typical values to try are from 12 to 20 ohms, the resistor draws more current and so should drop this infamous 1.5V when 12V is no more applied for highbeam.
Second test would consist in adding some diodes (1,2 or 3) in serie just to check if it's better (will drop voltage up to about 3x0.6V= 1.8V)

Thanks RC200! Solenoid issue has been solved. I ended up placing a 1/2 Watt 22 Ohm resistor in parallel and now the solenoids not only work as they should, but they are much more responsive (there was a slight delay before).

I also went ahead and wired up my halogens to the high beams as well... so now I have both Bi-Xenon and Halogen high beams

Hey! It was my idea first!! hahaha

On a side note, I just got to thinking. If you wired up the bulb before the solenoid, the bulbs resistance alone might have been enough.

    inline means in serie ?
    must be in parallel

btw, 1w is better, 1/2 watt is going to dissipate too much for its size

Series would work better I think. Electricity will take the path of least resistance, so if you add a resistor then.. well.. it's probably not going to take that path.

    NO, it doesn't.
What you want is draining current when highbeam are off to drop the 1.5v (in fact more ) residual voltage leaking from the lowbeam wiring, so PARALLEL as tested above

I also agree that a 1/2W resistor is a little small

This is what I'm in on this for. I want to see this light output.

So this resistor issue, is this easily corrected by the average soldering tinkerer? I know how to solder just fine, just don't have much knowledge on electrical resistance and its subtleties

On another note, I was thinking. For anyone that does the Bi Xenon route, you can also do the headlight intake duct thing through the high beam without losing any drive-ability!

Not that it really looks that great but it's very functional for getting cold air in there.

Word, how have things been going with the setup?

Also, is the thread in the B5 A4 section being bumped for group buy participants as well?

Bi-Xenon has been working perfectly. I went ahead and made a new thread in the A4 section (http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...05#post7434405) and also posted on QuattroWorld to try to get more participants. Please feel free to pass the info along on other boards as well.

Also, moving the GB list to Post #1 in this thread which is where I will continue to update the info.
