    PCV valve failure no CEL

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Normally my car burns about 1/2 quart every 3000 miles. Just recently it started burning a lot more and I chalked it up to bad piston rings but decided to take a look at the pcv valve. I checked both ends of the hose that connects the pcv to intake manifold and it was coated in oil far more than what I would consider acceptable. Now I would assume this is the problem with my oil consumption issues so I ready to just grab a new one from ecs. Does anybody have any suggestions on aftermarket brands? Should I only buy OEM? Annnd should I consider taking apart the manifold and cleaning the oil out of it?

    Thanks for the help!

well I would actually suggest seeing if your valve cover is cracked underneath and pulling oil into your PCV system.

A cracked valve cover underneath the pcv valve? Never thought of that. I've already checked pretty thoroughly for leaks.

there is a channel that runs through, the valve cover which is part of the PCV system , getting cracked underneath and pulling oil into the pcv system and intake is the number one cause of high oil usage on this model.

do a search on cracked valve cover on this forum and there are some great pics of what it looks like.

Will do. Do you suggest replacing the pcv valve while I'm at it?

Thanks for a point in the right direction, appreciate it!

    I would
I would make the PCV part of a greater plan to refresh and inspect the system. Just get the correct setup for your vin. I bought OE in this case from a genuine parts supplier.

oh shoot ... i did this entire thread and didnt realize i was on the B8 forum .. dammit .. ignore everything i said .. i have a B 8and a B7 and must have got mixed up ... lets start over ....

high oil usage on this model will be 3 things

    pcv
    turbo seals
    Rings

If you have replaced the PCV and it continues, it is usually the rings unfortunately

No problem, I was a bit confused as the valve cover is aluminum. Ordering a new PCV just to try first before I go looking for a low mileage B9.

Nice to see I'm not the only one who went this route.
