At that point, you might as well colour match as the fogs are no longer efficient for their intended function.

I personally don't like blue at all, but that's mainly because my car is red and I prefer "pure white" (5000K) and not "bluish white" (6000K).
I only run the front fog lights when it actually is foggy or raining heavily, thus 2300K bulbs.

just fyi, radioshack does not carry any 50w resistors haha.
but i have ordered the 6ohm 50w resistors that OP used for the turns and as PNW avant suggested. (found on the bay for only a few bucks) will attempt the poor man's e-codes / side delete unless you turn on the turn signal. does anyone want a diy or is this too simple?

    The method is in here.

I would just use T-taps maybe, on 7&8.

You can either cut off the parking light lead on the bulb, or cover it with tape. I would lean towards tape as it's reversible.

As a matter of fact, try it with just tape first, to see if you can get the functionality right (ignore the bulb out warnings you'll get). If it works, then try to tackle the resistors to eliminate the warnings.

I would do it myself but I'm too lazy to pull the housings right now :)

    From the thread:

Search corner delete, you need to block the parking light contact point on the turn signal bulb socket itself (1 of the 3) and tap a 6 ohm 50 watt resistor between the number 7 and 8 wires. To cover the contact point just put electrical tape over the contact point. The mod is completely reversible this way if you choose to do so. Been running it like this problem free for several years. If you tap the resistor in make sure to put heat shrink on the resistor to keep the insulation from deteriorating over time. I said I would do a DIY write up a couple years ago but never got around to it since it's so simple.

so i got the switchbacks to work... you need to go to autoillumination.com and find the switchback bulbs that when they blink they blink (amber white amber white) not amber off amber off this tricks the bulb to work constantly so that a 3 wire set up is not needed....

the blinker can stay on constantly and no errors when you turn it off

hope this helps everyone... sorry for the late response i have been in nyc sight seeing and now im down at my place in hilton head. so when im home i will post a video to confirm

I drive it like i stole it , then again

Having headlights and/or foglights on during the day is just a safety thing. Helps you be seen.

It's the same reason that motorcycles (at least modern ones) have their headlights on all the time with no way to shut them off. The only headlight switch is a high-beam toggle.

In fact, most states have "Safety Corridors" on their highways in which it's a fineable offense to have your headlights off at any time of day.

I have my headlights on during the day and, most of the time, my foglights too. Definitely makes the car more noticeable. Could be the difference between someone seeing you and someone pulling out in front of you. Anything to avoid some asshole saying, "Sorry, I didn't see you." As your car is being hauled away on a wrecker...

I doubt the people with 6k 55w fogs and 6k 55w xenon headlights on during the day are doing it for "safety". But sure i guess....

Anyone know the exact name of the bulbs used? I tried 3157s and they still don't display the switchback function. They either stay all white and blink white, or they are off and blink yellow.

Some of the error-free LEDs are pretty intricate in their circuitry and soldering. For an LED anyway...

Thanks. I appreciate the help. I bought my bulbs from a local dealer in Toronto, so I am assuming that they were probably defective as well. The bulb didn't even change from white to amber.

Led turn signals for tails and switchbacks Review and Install

    Hi
Know this is a bit old thread.. Wanna know, if my EU spec bi-xenon will work with switchback LED's
As for now I dont drive with the orange driving lights(?) because they are not required here in Denmark..
But I Can VagCom it to US/canada so the blinkers will remain on.. Perhaps that will help?? But do they turn off when low beam goes on??
And.. My bulbs are BAU15 aka 1156 (single)

    Any ideas??

For e-codes, the turn signals are just that... turn signals. The parking light function is now handled by the city lights found near the high beams. The turn signals will not remain on.. no matter what coding you have. It simply isn't wired that way. The e-codes use a single filament bulb... the same bulb as found for the rear turn signals. Therefore, you only need to get BAU15 LED amber bulbs... then you can search for numerous threads for LED city lights.

Led turn signals for tails and switchbacks Review and Install

Could I mod it..? If I got a socket for the flat type bulbs, and perhaps wired my DRL wires to it??(retrofitted)
Or maybe just let it be.. It doesnt have City light either.. Just parking/position light, which is on when low beam is on, or when using fogs for driving light..

But the switchback would have been a cool feature..

I know this thread is old but I'm wanting to add load resistors to my switchback type 1 turn signals and am wondering which wires do I splice into?

BUMPING instead of starting a new thread...

Looking for some insight from people tho have attempted this solution to the AMBER/OFF switchbacks:

Quote Originally Posted by mdk View Post

The described problem people were having with AO LED's:

"4. When keeping my blinker on for over 10 seconds the bulbs would not switch back to the white parking lamp. This is because our cars come with a 2 wire system and not a 3 wire system that is actually what these bulbs are made for. the 3 wire system has a ground a parking and a blink wire. the 2 wire system What Our Cars Have is set up like this : one wire for ground and one wire for parking and blink."

I'm ready to pull the trigger, but I would love some feedback before I spend $30 on individual bulbs....

    Thanks in advance guys.

Gmudan, apparently fitting two resistors, as described by mdk, allows them to work on our cars. But I want some feedback before I give it a shot!!

I'm probably going to attempt it, cause I also do not like the Amber White Amber White flashing.

Call me picky, but I just think it looks silly compared to the Amber Off version.

Which ones are you talking about that are amber white amber white? Or why would you buy those?

The ones in the second video above, are white for steady on, "switchback" to amber for turnsignals......

So... anybody got them working properly? when I tried the double resistor on the driver side with contact points 7&8, 8&9 with my switchback type 1 (white/amber/white/amber) bulbs the white less eventually just burnt out, although the turn signals never gave me an error over the months that I used them. Now, I've replaced them with some fresh ones and took the resistor on points 8&9 (for led lights as stated in the wiring diagram) but left the resistor on points 7&8 (turn signal) and the passenger side I've done nothing at all to them. BUT

both sides have either the white on with no signal feature at all or rotate the bulb 180 degrees and I get poor mans ecodes. (no white, but turn signals work fine)

And thats with nothing done to passenger side and resistor on turn signal contact on driver side. I don't know whether to be frustrated or content that I got an ecode look alike. In all honesty I was kinda hoping I could get the white working cause it matches the 5k osram CBI so beautifully.

And yes I know my head lights are different colors but that's cause I haven't installed the other CBI yet.

Bringing back from the dead... anyone try connecting the fender marker light to the switch backs? The fender lights only turn on when signal turned on, might just need to tap into the fender light to the switchbacks to get them to work properly
