Here's the story, I work in a garage that is seeing more and more Audi's just in the last 6 months. Latest one is a 2001 Allroad that the owner wants us to install an aftermarket radio/GPS unit in. We found a kit to replace the factory Audi Symphony sound system but when we hook it up there is no audio except for the factory sub in the right rear. Anyone out there done one of these or one similar?

What kind of kit?...your issue may be related to the different impedance of the factory speakers...seems odd that your shop would take on such a project and not know how to troubleshoot the install irrespective of the make of the vehicle.

What do you mean by a kit to replace the factory Symphony sound system?

put the car back together, hand the person back any money they may have given you and tell them to go somewhere else.

His response is understandable, because it sounds like you are getting into a trade that your shop is not equipped for. You described your business as a "garage," which usually means a mechanic. Mechanics generally don't install aftermarket stereos, because a) that requires a bunch of specialized knowledge, which is why there are car stereo shops, and b) because of the jungle of proprietary manufacturer audio systems that are not simple to modify, which you are running into. I would not have a car stereo shop replace my power steering pump, because that is a job for a mechanic. Your description of the problem is totally lacking in detail, which leads me to believe that you don't know car stereos very well.

If I had to guess, I'd say you somehow put speaker level outputs into the amp's RCA level inputs, but that doesn't explain why the sub still works.

Joe- some detail on the kit and the installation would help...see both #2 and #3 posts in this thread.
