    18x8.5 vs 19.8.5

I currently have 18 x 8.5 wheels with 245/40/18 tires and I am lowered on Neuspeed sport springs. I want to get a lower car effect by getting bigger wheels, but I'm wondering if my logic on getting 19's is incorrect. If I get 19 x 8.5 wheels and use the recommended tire size of 255/35/19 for them, will they close more of the wheel gap than what the 18's I currently have now cover? If so, by about how much?

If it makes no difference, then I may as well get coilovers to go lower. Eiither way, the price for either will be about the same. Just looking for some input. Thanks.

Wheel gap stays the same, in fact, there's an illusion of MORE wheel gap when you go with larger wheels since the side wall decreases to keep the same rolling diameter. You're going to need coils for what you want. You CAN go with 225/40/19 for the same rolling diameter and you actually will slightly decrease the wheel gap.

What if I go with 20's? Will that take care of the wheel gap?

This is what my car looks like now.

just get coilovers, what you're trying to do is increase the wheel gap by increasing the tire, but you'll be using the wrong tire size and thats not the right way to do it. i mean you could get 40 tires on a 19" or 45 on a 20, but youll have thicker tires and it will just look a bit weird too, you'll be throwing off the speedometer, the mpg computer, etc. since the diameter will be different. and if you get 40s you'll have to decrease the sidewall, which will look even worse since you're not very low, and you'll have an almost stretched look but not even that low.

what you can do, it will still give the illusion of less wheel gap, you can get bigger wheels but just stick to the rated tire sizes. right now you have the 18s, and as an example lets say like 3 inch thick tires plus 1 inch wheel gap, total of 4 inches between wheel and fender. so when you get 20s lets say the tire decreases to 1.5 inch thick and wheel gap is still 1 inch, but now you'll have 2.5 inches between wheel and fender, so from far it will still look better than the 18s of course, will give illusion of less wheel gap with the bigger wheels.

that prob go confusing lol, but im sure u know what i mean. youll have the same wheel gap, but then the tire will decrease but wheels will increase in place of that so you'll have less 'black'/gap area between wheels and fenders.
