    Fix for uncomfortable seats.....Free

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
After visiting this section I saw a couple of threads complaining about the seats. So i figured I'd share this with the a4 guys that worked out well for me and some other a5 owners. so i did this in my b6 a4 with great results. instantly i knew i had to do this in my a5 as sport seats are near I'm

possible to find. the lumbar in the driver's seat is awful. makes you feel your sitting on top of the seat rather than comfortably in it and has absolutely no turning support.....UNTIL NOW!!!

while i should have taken pictures i was in such a rush to get this done that i forgot but it shouldn't be too hard to follow. i was able to talk another member through this over the phone the other night. so here you go

first we need to remove the back panel.

    1. starting at either lower left or lower right, stick a smooth removal tool ( i like to plastic dog bone) in the area and pop the tabs holding it in. work your tool all the way up both sides until all the tabs have been released.

    2. now you want to pull back on one side while at the same time pushing down on the top to get the top "hooks" free, you will bend the back panel so don't be scared.

    3. once the sides and upper half have been released, disconnect the lower "hooks" and remove the panel.

    4. now we see the culprit. have a rag ready as it may be a little greasy and make sure you have the lumbar support all the way back.

    5. you will see 4 white/clear clips that you can easily break free with a set of needle nose and pulling power. these you will want to remove entirely later before you close everything up.

    6. now you can bend away to metal on the sides that hold the lumbar mechanism to the vertical posts.

    7. disconnect the wiring from the two motors.

    8. now you just have to rotate the entire assembly in a way to remove it from the metal bars.

    9. once removed tuck away the wire connectors and put back the rear panel in reverse of the way you took it out.

    10. enjoy your new driver's seat that will feel a hell of a lot better and will hold you while taking turns. you may even end up like me and forget about finding sports seats all together as the turn holding is much improved while also providing long distance comfort.

    11. not sure you want to do this? sit in your passenger seat if it doesn't have the lumbar support to get an idea of the feel of this mod.

while i don't understand how i could possibly be responsible for any damage you do in this process, i have seen tons of other people write this so....i am not responsible for any damage you do to your seat or car while following this write up. but seriously this is so easy i'm not sure how anyone could break anything

Ok, I have not sat in the regular seats, only the sport ones and I actually sit with the lumbar support full extended and as low as it goes, right into the curve of my back. I wish the side bolsters were bigger, about 3 inches longer would be great.

I recently let my wife drive my car for 1st time on long trip (regular seats), and i thought the passenger seat was more comfortable, particularly the lumbar support. Not sure i want to pull out the driver side innards though.

Apparently not! I've always seen people complain about the seats, but mine are easily the most comfortable and supportive seats I've ever had in a car.

Blake - you have a S-Line so you have sport seats, i think.. rubbing it in on us non-sport seat folk

the lumbar support is awkwardly shaped on the non-Sport seats. i think i read this post in the A5 forums a month or so ago. i let my brother drive my car the other day and i sat in the passenger seat for the first time and LOVED how much more comfortable it was. (i think in the other thread you mentioned that this mod will make ur driver's seat feel like the passenger seat)

Very interesting. Although the explanation in write-up is very detailed, before ripping s**t out of my seat, I would like to see a DIY with pics. I would hate to misinterpret something and take too much out.

I like your avatar pic. I'm a backcountry Tele skier. It should be a great year for snow.

That's a pic at Whistler, just down the road from me. About 10' of snow has fallen on the mountain so far, so we're hoping for a repeat of last year!

Thanks for this. Both this thread and the audiworld one seem to explain and show pretty thoroughly. Definitely worth a try to see if it helps.

Just to clear things up. The audiworld thread removes a part of the lumbar assembly. My write up removes the entire assembly. Either one seems to give positive results to those who have discomfort.

As posted in the simular topic some time ago, need bigger side boltsers!
