Christmas came a little early this year (advanced key/front PDC kit/mirrors)

Just received several kits from DavidB8 and a power folding mirror kit from ECS. I had the advanced key in my B8 A4 and really missed it as regrettably I did not get it for the A5. Luckily DavidB8 was able to put together something. It's not the cheapest thing to retrofit but it should be worth it. Besides, nothing beats the satisfaction of seeing your retrofits work.

Here are some pictures of the kits(Advanced key + Front Parking sensors) from DavidB8. Great kits as all harnesses are labelled and everything you will need is included. Cheaper and better kits than from Kufatec.

No promises but I might post a DIY or installation pictures for the advanced key kit if I can get it to work that is.......still have lots to figure out and only just completed the power mirrors retrofit which was a pain in the ass to do..

UPDATE: Advanced Key retrofit completed and is fully functional! DIY to follow shortly

    Advanced Key

    Front PDC

Power folding mirrors from ECS. Too a little long to arrive but worth the wait. Thanks to Jason@ECS Tuning for sorting out the mess and for his help!!

Stupid question, but what exactly does 'advanced key' actually do? Seems like you have invested alot of money and work, so I'm just curious what exactly you will be achieving.

Unlocks doors when you get close to the car, activates seat memory (I think), enables the push to start.

DavidB8, if you're reading this, which I know you will. I will be needing both these kits in the spring

Basically what Stubek said. Essentially you won't need to take the key fob out of your pocket to enter/ start the vehicle. However, for Canadian models, memory seats are standard. If your vehicle came with the higher trims or has the technology package then it would have been standard.

Yes that will be purchased from the dealer. But apparently when I spoke to the service advisor, he said that there's a slight chance that my current keys will work after being reprogrammed. I won't know until I get my BCM module and keys adapted so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

ms3008, I see from your sig the car is a 2011 and you are in Canada, but the first picture of the new console shows no MMI interface nob. I thought Canada had the same ordering options at the US and I think everything in the US comes with that nob, doesn't it? Which options package did you get, premium?

In Canada, 2011 models only have 2 trims, premium and premium plus trims. I got the premium trim.

Premium trims have LED headlights, bluetooth, seat memory, 3 zone climate etc. It just does not have side assist/advanced key/colour DIS which premium plus models have. B&O is an extra charge option only available on the higher trim.

Both trims do not have the MMI interface knob on the center console unless you get nav which is an extra charge option. I'm not sure how it works for other models but this is the case for the A5. The options on the A4 are quite similar as well.

Ahh, thanks. I thought the MMI nob was there to interface with the radio stations, etc so was there regardless of nav/B&O, etc.

Not to jump in on the thread but thought I would just bump this a little and let everyone know there has been some progress. One step left so fingers are crossed, but right now the car has push button start with the key in the ignition :)

I'll leave all the details and experiences for OP when he's ready. I'm just as anxious as he is I think. Being the first Advanced Key kit I've ever sold and the first one on the board to be installed..

Actually without your help with the coding yesterday it would have not been possible to get it working.

I popped by the dealership today to order some keys but they said that there is no difference between key fobs for cars equipped with advanced key and the regular key. Besides, they are only able to order keys based on my VIN, which will then be the same key as what I have now.

The tech said that it might be my antenna or wiring that is not working. He suggested that I should scan the car for errors. When I installed the pins, I double checked several times to make sure it's correct. So I hope it's not the wiring. It says that the key is not identified when I push on the button without inserting the key fob in the ignition.

I only see 2 part numbers in ETKA for the A5 so they may be telling the truth. There is one remote for normal A5 and one for "S" Variant which I'm guessing is for the S5. HOWEVER. Just because there is only 2 in ETKA doesn't mean that there aren't different remotes. ETKA shows replacement parts and not always factory. For instance, the holder that holds the Parking module is specific to the car build, but in ETKA you can only get one that has holders for every module. So our factory holders have a spot for the parking but the only replacement you can get has spots for the Trailer hitch module and Aux Heater module. So it is possible the factory remote doesn't support the advanced key but all replacement remotes do. The easiest thing to do is check the part number.

The A4 and A5 use the same remote. The advanced key remote for the A5 should be 8T0 959 754 G and that is the same part number for my remote which comes with Advanced key from Factory.

Of course if there is any wiring issues on an antenna it will cause the advanced key not to work as well but we'll think happy thoughts on that right now as there where no errors in the modules. At least not after I coded your module since the dealer couldn't figure out how to code a new module to stock.

This is new ground and there may be coding missing as well so I will get in touch with my supplier overseas and see if they have some input since they have done this conversion before. Not to worry we'll figure it out.

P.S.. If you pull the key out of the remote the part number is on the end of the remote that gets exposed. Hope you have good eyes ;)

I'll check internal part number reference when i get back to work on monday, but i would be very surprised if they are the same, electronics component cost difference is significant between the two.
Can you tell me the other part number from your basic key, one next to big M6403.306?

There are few tricks to check if your antennas are firing. You should be able to hear antennas when they fire, so put your ear close to the antenna and listen for ticking noise when you hit start/stop button.
Other way is little more complicated, but still pretty easy as long as you have spare LED and some wire lying around. Take any LED, wind some wire on the antenna, and connect two ends to the LED, once you push the start stop button, LED should start flickering as the messages are transmitted. Plus there is satisfaction in the end when you see such a simple thing work so nice.

Thanks for the information! But I can't find M6403.306 anywhere on the key fob. 5203.308 is what is next to the circular logo of some sort. Anyway you were right all along. New keys are needed. I should have gotten new keys when I got the dealer to install the BCM module. So now I have to pay another hour worth of labour to adapt the new key. Guess it was worth taking a shot.

But your advice is really useful. I listened closely to the center console for any clicking sound when the start button was pressed and there was a clicking sound. At least I know that's working fine. Saved me the hassle of taking the center console out again.

I think the A5/S5 group may be lucky for front parking retrofits. Thanks to another member who got a kit from me for this picture. It shows the parking sensor bracket built into the bumper already. This is or was (see the post on the poor car after it's recent accident) a 2011 so not sure if it's different for older cars.

For those who didn't know, my original key fob had an "A" suffix. Anyway I've ordered the key with the correct part number. The parts guy was giving me a hard time as he was not willing to order a key fob that is not tied to my VIN. LUCKILY for me and like you said the only key that shows up with my VIN is the key with the correct "G" suffix. Perhaps there was a revision of some sort. So now I have the correct key on order. But alas, I'll be going away for a while so I won't be able to finish this as soon as I would have liked. But we're really close now. No worries about that. I'm pretty confident it's working as expected now.

I just checked our internal p/n reference and there is a difference in keyfobs as i assumed.
Basic key will not work with Keyless go system, while the Keyless go(Advanced) key should work with any system.

    Thanks, Alex
You can contact DavidB8 for the kit. He'll help you out with everything you need. I don't think the dealer will install it for you as they are quite picky about these mods. I think they don't want to accept liability should anything go wrong. At least that's what my dealer feels, although yours might be different. Never hurts to ask them. But you'll definitely need them to help you swap your BCM module if you don't have one with the correct revision.

Another alternative is to find a reputable local tuning shop. They should be able to provide better assistance. Another thing to consider is the labour costs should you decide to get the dealer to help you install it. It is quite time consuming as there are a lot wires to run. It took me many sleepless nights to install it but to be fair it's my first time removing so many panels. So with the price of the kit being fairly high, coupled with new keys and labour costs, it might not be worthwhile.

However, if you decide to do it yourself, don't worry as David and I will surely provide assistance if needed. Just so you know, David's assistance is immediate! I will be posting a DIY after I meet up with David to get the module activated properly as my dealer did not activate the BCM properly. Want to make sure it works 100% before posting it. Just waiting for David to come back!

Not a problem! I got the kit from ECS tuning. It costs $763 USD.

Here is the kit for models >2010 - http://www.ecstuning.com/Audi-B8_A5-...ors/ES2226219/

The only thing about getting it from them is the brokerage fees. Practically got raped for that. You could also try contacting Stoke Audi from the UK but make sure you give them the proper part numbers that start with 8T1 if not they might send you RHD mirrors. I think some members got their kit from Stoke Audi.

As for the mirror caps and chrome switches, I got them from sellers in Germany.

The keyless is working without me having to put the key in the ignition. It's just the unlocking of the doors that is not working at the moment.

However, I am supposed to meet with DavidB8 to get it sorted out. I am away and I think David is still busy with his move so perhaps I'll be able to give a definite answer within the next month or so.

Latest update on the advanced key retrofit: Success!

Turns out that there was a minor mix up with the module. The advanced key retrofit works! Many thanks to DavidB8 and his partner for helping me out! What a relief to see it working.

Cool stuff. Grats on the advanced key!

I did the auto folding mirror conversion. The best tip I can give is: do NOT try to do it without a bojo tool. Getting that mirror housing apart with a screwdriver would have been hell.

Thanks! Could not have done it without DavidB8, his business partner and the others who have replied to this thread. A DIY with pictures will follow shortly.

How are you liking your mirrors? It's a cool upgrade eh? I totally understand what you went through. I used the plastic trim remover and it took me all night! An entire night of swearing! haha
